Out and about this morning - quick round trip from Newark to Lincoln and back on one of our @lner.co.uk direct services. Always fascinating to see some of our last remaining semaphore signals at Swinderby. Love the statue to George Boole, founder of Boolean algebra, at the front of the station.
We’re operating two direct @lner.co.uk services between Newcastle and Bedford to make journeys to/from London easier during the upcoming engineering work closure on Sunday 30 August. They will connect at Bedford with Thameslink services.
Another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ triumph from @nottmplayhouse.bsky.social - honoured to attend the press night of ‘The Market Deeping Model Railway Club’. Based around the destruction of the club’s 2019 exhibition, this play is brilliant - yes there are trains, but it is really about the people. Runs until 25 July.
Happy retirement to Mike, who is retiring today from his role at Newark Northgate station, after joining our railway in 2005. Mike, aged 82, has helped many of our customers over the years, most recently as part of the team who provides our passenger assistance service. Thank you, Mike! @lner.co.uk
We have implemented a reduced @LNER.co.uk train service today and tomorrow - all Lincoln-London and 50% of Leeds-London services will not run. There are also some amendments to our Hull and Middlesbrough services. We advise do not travel today. Tickets dated today will be accepted until 30 June.
Today we have unveiled our “Gresley 150” train, celebrating the life of Sir Nigel Gresley who designed the railway icons “Flying Scotsman”, “Mallard” and many others. It was a pleasure to welcome Sir Nigel’s grandson and great grand-daughter to Doncaster for this special occasion. #Gresley150
Good morning! A special occasion as we unveil new colours for one of our Azuma trains later today…
Lovely to start this weekend’s celebrations of Sir Nigel Gresley’s birth with a service in Doncaster Minster, led by the railway chaplains, featuring music from Doncaster Salvation Army Band, the minster choir and the @LNER.co.uk male voice quartet. Thanks to all who attended! #Gresley150
Proud to announce that we are introducing #AskForAngela across our trains and stations - making @LNER.co.uk the first UK train operator to do so. This is about something simple but vital: giving anyone who feels unsafe a discreet way to ask for help and know they’ll be supported.
Happy retirement to Clive, who is retiring after 47 years of railway service - Clive started at Leeds, worked on board services including the Yorkshire Pullman, and for the past two decades from GNER to LNER he’s been a vital part of the East Coast Main Line 24/7 control team. Thank you Clive!
To make journeys easier during engineering work planned for the East Coast main line later in the year, we’re hoping to divert some @lner.co.uk services onto the Midland Main Line. This week we ran one of our Azuma trains to Bedford overnight to test stepping distances and accessibility.
It was great to join our annual #CoffeeCupRun on the @LNER.co.uk route this week. Brilliant collaboration with Network Rail, Hitachi & other train operators - using data, sensors and AI to improve ride quality and punctuality for our customers
The new @lner.co.uk menu is here! The toasted avocado muffin with fresh pico de gallo certainly matches the ‘fresh and flavourful’ description! Prepared by Rob, one of our on-board chefs.
The ‘Flying Scotsman’ is back! This morning, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers will mark the return of the iconic ‘Flying Scotsman’ name on the express @lner.co.uk services 10.00 from Edinburgh Waverley and 10.30 from London King’s Cross - scheduled to take just 4h09min capital-to-capital.
Our 66th Azuma train is looking rather good at Grantham station this morning!

Great to don the PPE today and get a behind the scenes tour of the new Darlington station gateway entrance and new platforms 5 & 6. It’s going to be really impressive - and will improve punctuality by reducing the need for southbound services to cross over.
Good to see more people choosing the train in 2025! 👇 From the ORR’s latest statistics on passenger rail usage
Thank you to everyone who has joined with us to mark #BrewMonday today, supporting the amazing work of the volunteers at @samaritans.bsky.social!
Monday 19 January - buy a hot drink on board an @lner.co.uk train and the proceeds go to the @samaritans.bsky.social It’s for #BrewMonday - a cuppa, a catch-up, a “how are you, really?”, it might feel small, but it can make a world of difference. Travelling with us? We’ll get the kettle on
Merry Christmas to everyone! Special thanks to those people who are working on our rail network today. 📷 Adam Smallwood @lner.co.uk

Afterwards we laid flowers at the memorial and at 12.23pm, the time of the crash, held a minute’s silence. We remember the four men who died in the crash, the people who were injured and everyone who was touched by the tragedy.
