Am I embarrassed that when I saw this piece at the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh, one of my first thoughts was "ah, this painting takes place in Leyendell, from the video game Elden Ring, before the Shattering?" Yes. Was I wrong to think that? Not entirely!

Elden Ring’s “Shadow of the Erdtree” DLC is provoking an unusually strong emotional reactions from me. The awful tragedies and failures that are the bread and butter of Soulsborne storytelling hitting extra hard. Not sure if it’s design, my being more experienced w their style, or the story per se.
