Just met a cat at the end of my street called Hamilton. Cats on leads are definitely growing. This is the 2nd I've seen in 6 days. I caught him mid miaow in the first pic.

I don't get Blackbirds anymore in my garden, sadly. This is my cat, Dave. He is completely happy being on a harness when he's in the garden

A few surprises at Snettisham today. Turtle Doves usually take a bit of looking for, but two flew across the path in front of me. I don't remember seeing Mediterranean Gulls there. The gorgeous juvenile plumage is one of my favourites 🥰 Clips of them below 🪶 #LowCarbonBirding

Great day, twitching & birding in Essex. Spent a couple of hours watching the Hudsonian Godwit. An enjoyable, friendly twitch. Then Abberton Res for the first time as a local birder kindly offered me a lift. Hobby, Osprey, Little Gulls, Spoonbills, Cattle Egrets. Mostly #LowCarbonBirding #UKBirding

I was told that this was an Eyed-hawk moth caterpillar. It was at RSPB Frampton a couple of years back. Whatever it is, your picture's great 😊👍

Local cinema tonight to see Welsh language film Effi o Blaenau. Just as the end credits rolled, a message popped up that the Night Heron was showing. Checked the trains & there was one due. Long-tailed Shrike missed its chance to get on my life list. So, I spent the day in the Musselburgh area, enjoying 3 species of Scoter. Impossible to pick out the WW Scoter's profile with the heat haze. Enjoyed a bit of Edinburgh architecture, too #LowCarbonBirding #UKBirding 🪶

I don't do butterflies but I pick up a few tips from the posts of those that do. Saw my first White-letter Hairstreak near one of the hides. Essex Skipper on the walk in. And of course, a Small Copper 🧡 #Butterflies

First visit to Gibraltar Point this year. Little Gull, Spotted Redshanks, Greenshanks, Spoonbills, Common & Green Sandpipers, Dunlins & Mistle Thrushes. 4 species of raptor but I missed a ringtail. Lots of butterflies 🦋 Sad to see a dead Grass Snake on the road in. #LowCarbonBirding 🪶 #LincsBirding

Speaking of caterpillars. This is starting to hatch out. Right next to (I think) a false widow spider. Some sort of tussock? I think about now the spiders are starting to creep me out. I need to go birding 😄

I do. Apparently they're Issus coleoptratus. Often found on or near Ivy, of which I have tons. Sent a pic to a local invertebrate person. It turned out that we went to school together 😅

Love a tern colony & birds that stray from usual migration paths. Excited to read that the A B Tern & her Arctic beau had produced a chick. Long Nanny: 5 species of Tern. Fab to watch them bathing in the burn & Little Terns mobbing a Peregrine. Gutted to read that the chick died #LowCarbonBirding 🪶

A colourful afternoon in my urban garden. Red Kite flew low over. Scarlet Tiger, the star species. Rummaging around the garden trying to locate the Yellow Meadow Ants, I lifted some moss & was surprised to see a colony of Bees. Common Carders a friend tells me. Yellow & Black Longhorn too #Nature

Enjoyable birding in Sherwood Forest. Several Tree Pipits, the beauts. Marsh Tits (no bird food out now). Family of Redstarts, Blackcaps & all the regulars: Treecreepers, Nuthatches, Jays, Tits etc. Nice to see the honey bee colony in the same oak too #LowCarbonBirding #BirdOfTheDay #Passerines 🪶

A bit worse for wear yday, not expecting any birding, I spotted half a dozen Swifts. Always have my bins with me, so I got a phonebinned clip. Shared it with Swift surveyor mates who commented that it's a young bird knocking to see if a nest is empty. Eh? says I. Hearing aids in, oh yes! 🪶

Love this poem! 🫶 I went for a stroll whilst changing trains at Crewe yesterday. Spotted a (probable) Buff-tailed bumblebee on a busy tarmac path & lifted it to the nearest flower.
