Well that was more boilerplate than anything. This is blocking right now, but I should be able to make it async with a callback containing the response with a bit more work. I also went with FText rather than FString to properly support localization.

Although operant conditioning differs in many respects from the classical conditioned reflex methods of the Russian scientist Pavlov, some of the same terms are used. To the extent that a given response is strengthened by what comes after it, perhaps in the form of a reward for successful performance, it is said to be reinforced. If it is desired to reduce some kind of performance instead of strengthening it, the reward, or reinforcer, is omitted. The behavior then decreases, that is, undergoes extinction. By an appropriate balancing of reinforcement and extinction, behavior can be shaped, or made to move in desirable directions.

These rather easily understood principles can be applied to pain, as though pain were itself a conditioned response.

Came across a very interesting find while perusing esoteric books in a random shop and, ironically, I could not resist. I am sure it will make for an interesting read, however outdated it may or may not be. Published in 1975.

The rear of the book, bearing an image of the authors, and:

Ernest R. Hilgard and Josephine R. Hilgard both earned their Ph.D. degrees at Yale, he in experimental psychology, she in child psychology. She completed her M.D. degree at Stanford Medical School after their move from Yale and received further training in Chicago and Washington in psychiatry and psychoanalysis, in which fields she has continued to practice, teach, and do research. Except for the years of the Second World War, both of their careers have been at Stanford since 1933, he as Professor of Psychology, she as Clin-ical Professor of Psychiatry.

Their research in hypnosis began in 1957 after their individual careers had been well established. The research was supported first by the Ford Foun-dation and has continued primarily with grants from the National Institute of Mental Health. Their current study of hypnosis in the treatment of children with cancer is being supported by a grant from the National Cancer Institute.

Josephine Hilgard is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychoanalytic Association, the American Psychological As-sociation, and the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis. Her ear-lier book on PERSONALITY AND HYPNOSIS received the Arthur Shapiro award in 1970, and she later received the Shirley R. Schneck Award as "a physician who has made significant contributions to the development of medical hypnosis."

Ernest Hilgard is a past president of the American Psychological Asso-ciation, of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, and of the Division of Psychological Hypnosis. In addition to his memberships in the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, he is currently president of the International Society of Hypnosis. Name a game with a 10/10 soundtrack This goes for the DLC/ expansion too.

Another "Programmers can post pics too" post: This time a little bit of the code in github.com/DeviantdVelo... which I am currently making sure works with Unreal 5.5 (spoiler it does not out-of-the-box) while maintaining support for at least 5.2 Check out the alt text for what it does if you want.

The code is a single function "PackAndSendMessage" which does what it says.

There are many types of message in this plugin, and all of them need to serialize (turn into raw data) to JSON strings to be sent to Intiface to send commands to sex-toy peripherals. Sadly, Unreal's built-in JSON serialization does not use the formatting that Intiface expects, so all my messages need to have custom Serialization, and since all messages also have different contents, this function takes a templated message type, and a list of arguments, then uses FInstancedStruct's construction methods to dynamically construct the desired message type, then simply wrap it in the FBPMessagePacket type, then, after registering the response delegate (basically waiting for a reply from Intiface), it sends the message. Actually quite simple.

So line by line we:
- Create a new Message ID (just a unique number, in this case all messages come through this function so they simple iterate)
- Create the requested Message as an instanced struct, and populate its values.
- "Unwrap" the Instanced struct into its native type
- Pack that native struct type into the Message packet.
- If we have provided a callback/delegate for the message response, bind to it.
- Send the message
- Return the unique Id, which can be used to check against responses (unnecessary with these delegates).

Simple, right? Right? Maybe I could have done it better, I am not sure.

Programmers can post cool stuff too: here is cursed code I wrote a while ago (no longer used, but still in the codebase) for Hypno.exe, specifically for converting an FLinearColor to FGuid. Cursed, but it worked as desired. ¯\(°_o)/¯ Anyone else want to share "interesting" code from their past?

A block of code I wrote to convert colors into unique IDs in Unreal, commented thus:

//Different filth: convert color to FGUID.
//FLinearColor RGBA values are between 0 and 1 (generally) to ~6/7 decimal places (0.0000000)
//Multiply by 100,000,000 to put the entire value before the decimal, making it an int
//Then use those 4 ints to seed an FGuid for the filename
//Now filenames are unique to each color, give or take floating point errors which do not make enough of a difference on screen/in eyes.
