The USGS has released data showing that America's underground aquifer storing water is officially drying up. The Ogallala Aquifer faces an existential crisis as massive agricultural extraction severely outpaces natural replenishment from rainfall.

Look at the extent of nitrate contamination of private wells in #Iowa. Public water supplies are no different. The purple dots are absolutely unsafe levels Iowans are drinking, and we need to talk about this. (Only reverse osmosis removes nitrates from water. Under sink is safer than whole-house.)

Republican Senator Chuck Grassley (R- #Iowa) does not rule out running for another 6-year term in 2028, when he’ll be 95 years old. If that happens, he could celebrate his 100th birthday in office. Grassley was first elected to office in 1958. Robb Sand is right. We need term & age limits.

BREAKING the US Coast Guard, CGC Kimball, is moving to intercept and board the China spy chip off Hawaii. The ship is refusing to allow boarding.

The dynamics of this stand off is different then the tankers in Oman. The "not under control command" under international law gives a duty to render assistance. I think China could easily realize that, therefore i do not believe it is a deception. The loss of control is this likely real.

It is possible that the US secretly used a microwave burst to fry the spy ship's bridge and that then also gives pretext to board. Or it may be that the ship really is out of control do to internal damage. Either way a show down has now widened from the Gulf of Oman to include Hawaii waters.

So basically Trump just demonstrated to China, you attempted to destroy our economy, well we can cut off your oil! Now that you have the back story, is Trump mad hatter reckless? Or is the situation so serious that Trump had to take strong action to block China's oil?

Here is the real back story:

🔴 THE PANAMA TRIGGER: Earlier this year, the U.S. pressured Panama to evict the Chinese firm (CK Hutchison) from the Canal’s key ports. Panama then handed the keys to Maersk and MSC to keep things moving.

🔴 CHINA’S COUNTER: Beijing didn’t take it sitting down. In March, they summoned Maersk’s leadership and essentially ordered them to quit Panama or face a total blacklist from Chinese ports. To back it up, they started "bricking" Panama’s economy by detaining dozens of Panama-flagged ships for "safety inspections."

🔴 THE U.S. RETALIATION: The current blockade in the Gulf of Oman is the Trump administration’s answer. The message to Beijing is clear: "If you try to break the Panama Canal by bullying our shipping lines, we will break your energy supply at the Strait of Hormuz."

Maersk is a European company China has no standing to order Maersk to immediately withdraw from Panama. However Maersk is heavily dependent on trade with China ports. If Maersk fails to comply then China could deny them access to Chinese ports destroying Maersk.

What happens if Maersk buckles to Chinese pressure and withdrawals from managing the Panama Canal? It would take months to scale up new management for Panama’s ports. This would effectively immediately cut shipping of all goods to Hawaii and to the US East coast. It would utterly destroy the US economy.

So basically Trump just demonstrated to China, you attempted to destroy our economy, well we can cut off your oil!

Now that you have the back story, is Trump mad hatter reckless? Or is the situation so serious that Trump had to take strong action to block China's oil?

We are dangerously close to war with China.

Is Trump crazy for deliberately provoking a China confrontation off of Iran? Trump ordered any ship paying Iran a toll to transit the Straight of Hormuz interdicted and seized. (It was predominantly China who was shipping oil through Hormuz and paying Iran). China then tried to prevent a confrontation by turning their ships to Iranian ports to wait it out. CENTCOM then expanded the interdiction order to include any attempt by tankers to enter (or leave) Iranian ports - thus forcing the confrontation with China! This has brought China and the United States to the brink of WW3 with no way out. China and US naval ships now pointing guns at each other! As a result China has moved missiles aimed at Hawaii, Guam and Kadena to launch pads and brought them to full ready launch status.

Is Trump reckless or does Trump have reason for this unexplained inflexible sudden hardline high stakes confrontation with China? Put bluntly, what the fck is going on?

First i must disclose my position on the Iranian war. The war is not in US interests. It was started soley at the behest of Israel. Trump was religious-blackmailed by Netanyahu. Further this is an unjust war! Meaning despite the religious impetus (Christian-zionism) as the causative factor, a real Christian can not support this war! This does not mean i think the US should now simply cease and desist. Spilled milk can not be unspilled. It would be irresponsible to start a war then simply walk away. The spilled milk has to be cleaned up.

However the Trump - China stand off is not spill over of the Iranian war getting out of hand. It is just the convenient back drop to Trump's show down with China.

Trump's retaliation against China is not because China was buying Iranian oil. It is retaliation for China’s attempt to strangle the Panama Canal.

Time is Running Out. Johnson County Childcare Providers Need Help Now.

Johnson County’s childcare system is in the early stages of collapse. If leaders and legislators wait until after programs close, we will lose them forever.

The choice is to invest in our existing programs or invest millions in constructing classrooms for infants and toddlers in our public schools. Inaction will result in our economy losing thousands of workers, families being pushed into poverty, and more young adults deciding they can’t afford to have children.

Affordability of Childcare in Johnson County, #Iowa: A family with two children earning the median household income of $105,652 would be paying over 29% of their income for childcare. The center rates are more than 4x what would be considered affordable. Yet childcare workers earn poverty wages.

State Child Care Assistance reimbursement falls far short of private pay rates resulting in a significant loss for centers, so many opt out, leaving low-income children without access to care.

· 748 infants under 24-months-old were enrolled in childcare centers in fall of 2025.

· 63% of centers with infants surveyed said they are operating at a loss.

· 59% of centers with infants surveyed said they are at risk of closing in the next 12 months.

Childcare programs are closing at an alarming rate in Johnson County, many due to the rapid expansion of full-day pre-k in local schools.

Childcare programs lose money caring for infants and toddlers, so without tuition from preschool children to make up for their losses, many programs will not be able to stay open without assistance.

Moving preschool children from childcare centers to schools does not solve the childcare worker shortage. A worker moved from caring for 4-year-olds to caring for infants cares for only 4 children instead of 12 children, which significantly increases staffing costs per child.
