But bc they've never actually DONE the work, they have no idea HOW it actually happens. They have some vague notions of WHAT valid "proof-of-work" might consist of and look like, but zero understanding of what's involved in the process or how any part of it feeds into the rest. Case in point:

Revision to address - Rewrite the briefing scene:
- reframe Anathwan's initial briefing to explain why they've been selected, what their original role and consequences were going to be, and offering them the choice to [REDACTED]
- bring out the [REDACTED] subplot more prominently so we get constant escalation throughout Act I on this point, by the end of which we can have the "what is this mission really about" take over from the 2nd half of Act I

We have no idea which bc this definition is super unclear. Since "Ellipsus automatically saves...your work" (help.ellipsus.com/article/my-c...), its version history is akin to GDocs: there's some set period for the autosave to fire, and timestamped snapshots show up as versions & grouped by days:

This is evident from the help docs for "View and restore past versions": help.ellipsus.com/article/view... Versioning generally—but not always—tends to be a reasonably reliable indicator in favour of human authorship bc previous drafts are kinda like timelapses for visual artists. However...

First off, how is "saved changes" being defined? When I manually hit "Save"? Because, as far as I can tell, there is no "Save" button in Ellipsus; it's a cloud-based writing app so everything is just automatically saved.

IDK where Ellipsus is getting their typical human benchmark of "30-70 wpm" from, but let me tell you what MY personal benchmark is for alpha drafting: 400 wph, a.k.a. 6.67 wpm (lol yes my metrics on my current WIP are absolutely dire; turns out drafting book 3 is worse than drafting book 2)

SUPPLICANT just about killed me. The alpha draft needed catastrophic revisions. Many of the blips are bc I didn't set up my tracker to account for words that I wrote, then deleted (by moving them to the prose graveyard), then later reinstated. Then deleted. Then reinstated. And rewrote. Again.

Metrics as per their help file: help.ellipsus.com/article/embo... The intent, per the same, is to provide “positive proof of human authorship” i.e. the prose equivalent of a time-lapse recording for visual art. Let’s go through them one by one and assess whether they’re fit for purpose.

Sessions: The number of separate writing sessions (a new session begins after a gap of more than 30 minutes).
Average writing speed: Measures words written per active minute (excluding pasted test). (Typical human range: 30-70 wpm).
Thinking pauses: Measures pauses longer than 5 seconds during active writing sessions.
Total edits: How many saved changes were recorded after the first version of a document or draft.
Words-to-edit ratio: The number of words divided by the number of edits in a document or draft (lower numbers mean more revisions).
Paste ratio: The percentage of all characters ever added to the document/draft that were inserted by pasting.

So per the new terms of service: - $20 USD fee applies to all new accts & covers 1st year of acct maintenance - $12 USD maintenance fee applies after 2nd year, billed on the account's anniversary - maintenance fee is waived if the account earns >$100 net royalties in the preceding 12-month period

"To use the Program, you must open an account, which is free. To activate distribution privileges, a one-time Account Activation Fee is required, which also covers the first year of account maintenance. After the first year of a new account, an Account Maintenance Fee of $12 USD is charged annually for as long as you have Works distributed through your Program account. The annual Account Maintenance Fee shall be waived if your account earns $100 USD or more in royalties over the prior twelve-month period. Account Maintenance Fees are billed against royalties due and owing to you, unless such royalties are insufficient in which case we will charge the difference to your account. We will notify you via the email associated with your account should your account carry a negative balance. You may pay for any such balance via credit card or other payment methods made available to you via the Program. If your account carries a negative balance for more than thirty (30) consecutive days, we reserve the right to terminate this Agreement, suspend or close your Program accounts, and/or cease all distribution of your Works."
