The Democratic Difference
@demdifference
An account focused on highlighting the differences in economic outcomes under Democratic and Republican policies, often with charts.
FWIW, suggested 2026 message for any Democrat, of any stripe, to press aggressively every day between now and November:
China is the big winner of both the Iran war *and* Trump's trade war.
“.. the President is right that his tariffs are at work — in destroying U.S. jobs .."
Just imagine the 24-hour, 7-day-a-week saturation coverage this "fuck off" to the Catholic Bishops would have gotten on Fox News, talk radio, and conservative social media if it came from a top Obama advisor instead of ... ... a top Trump advisor (and former Grassley staffer and Gorsuch clerk).
Trump Lie: "We have the greatest economy we've ever had." Reality:
Not only did the June jobs number from ADP come in below expectations, but the larger trend since Trump returned to office has been a sustained slowdown in private-sector job creation compared to what he inherited:
Comedy gold from the Trump White House today. Senior Trump staff brags about him fulfilling a "signature commitment" by signing housing affordability bill shortly before Trump himself refuses to sign the bill.
"Americans are feeling financially stressed, see gas prices as a hardship and don't think their income is keeping up with inflation." And they know who is to blame.
"Donald Trump Has Betrayed EVERYONE" - @tarasetmayer.bsky.social Fact Check: True
With inflation rising due to Trump's tariffs and his reckless war in Iran, his team has tried to shift focus to job creation because the numbers last month were not as bad as they've been for most of Trump's term. But make no mistake, the job market has suffered a major blow under Trump's policies:
That was a dynamic that hurt, but tend to think it would have been easier to overcome than larger dynamic of Ds losing economic argument from 2022-24, due in no small part to Biden's inability to communicate effectively, which extended Vibecession instead of creating a Morning in America vibe.
"Lies and more lies from this Republican majority." Yes. And they all work for the king of lies.
Note: Even with this "best in a year" private-sector jobs number for April 2026, job creation during Trump's first 15 months is running far behind what we had in the 15 months before he returned to the White House. #EconSky #NumbersDay
The Billion Dollar Ballroom Betrayal Trump promised that no taxpayer money would be used for his ballroom project, but now Trump Republicans who run Congress are giving him a billion dollars for it. It's just the latest Republican betrayal of voters.
Stock market seems to be pretending that the March and April developments on this chart don't matter. How long can it last? #EconSky
Chris, 42, Ill., white, Republican, electrician: "I was hoping for a great comeback." Chris is right to be disappointed in Trump.
"We have to stop Iran from having a nuclear weapon." So, Trump is now telling us that ... the "fake news" was correct to doubt his claim last year that he had "obliterated" Iran's nuclear capacity - a false claim which is still on the White House website:
No numbers from the financial crisis, as the first Fed survey of personal financial well being was done in 2013 and questions on national and local economies first added in 2017. FWIW, in Sept. 2013, the combined doing okay/living comfortably number was 60.3% as compared to 72%-78% in 2017-2024.
On a related note, this chart -- which shows a large disconnect in recent years b/n how people rate their own personal-finances and how they rate the national economy (44-point gap in 2024 v. 25-point gap in 2019) -- is a strong piece of vibecession evidence. www.federalreserve.gov/publications...
If Democrats had successfully painted Reagan economy in 1984 the way Republicans painted Biden economy in 2024, and a Dem took over in 1985 and imposed tariffs that reversed downward trajectory in inflation and launched war driving gas prices to record levels, we might have seen that effect.
"We had the greatest economy ever, everything's going along." Fact Check: The job market tanked under Trump before the Iran war hit. Here's where things stood as of mid-February:
