Violence Jack - 1 / 5 Man. An absolutely depraved OVA that revels in its violence against women. I cannot in good conscience recommend this to any well-adjusted human being. Hopefully everyone involved in this production got the help they so desperately needed.
Ah! My Goddess OVA - 4.5 / 5 At first glance it's just another garden variety male-fantasy romcom, but it reveals itself to be much more than that. A charming cast, wonderful animation, and a fantastic theme song — it's exactly what I wanted, if albeit a *little* clumsy.
Angel Cop: 3 / 5 Dark, gritty, gruesome, and joyless. For the first 5 episodes, that combination was working for me! Episode 6 is... whew. They just come right out and say some things. In the end, the show was never *quite* what I expected or wanted, and the titular character is barely featured.
Slayers Excellent: 1.5 / 5 More like Slayers AWFUL amirite? I loved "The Slayers" and "Slayers NEXT" in high school, so it was a real shame that this OVA was a boring slog that left me with no desire to watch anything else outside of that original TV trilogy series.
801 T.T.S. Airbats: 4 / 5 This is one of /those/ kinds of shows, a Tenchi-like (male fantasy romcom) with all the problematic aspects that entails. It elevates itself in its second half and the entire show is filled with great animation and endearing characters. It left me wanting another batch.
Record of Lodoss War: 2 / 5 The first stinker. Every episode feels hilariously disjointed, nothing really happens, and Parn is the most nothing protagonist. I would've gone postal if I bought this one episode per VHS. That said: great OP/ED, solid aesthetic and vibes, and Pirotess gang rise up.
Gunbuster: 5 / 5 Do you ever watch something and feel as though it were made for you, specifically? This is that show for me. To almost no surprise, it's also Hideaki Anno's (of Eva fame) anime directorial debut. This one will be hard to beat. Doug didn't like it. 😔
Gunsmith Cats: 3.5 / 5 2nd Amendment / NRA - The Anime. I haven't done the research, but this has gotta be parody of what Japan thinks of Americans. Despite all that, great characters and thrilling animation. Banger soundtrack as well.
I'm going on an OVA journey, so here is a thread about them. Macross Plus: 3.5 / 5 Strong show, great production. Goes off the rails in the best way, and Bryan Cranston gives the polar opposite performance of Walter White (watched it dubbed just for him).
This Superboy-Prime run of Superman has gotta be one of my favorite comic book runs in recent memory.
Did you know? Gomah and Monaka are cousins! Gomah's actual hair is hidden under a hood, and he wears white makeup!
14 pages, varying levels of completion (anywhere from 40% - 90%, with the last 10% in most of those cases being dialogue). I regularly go back to older pages and adjust art, add details, etc. I'm actually wrapping up Oob vs Pan right now, so expect that to end mid-October. As for the tease:
Alternatively, if you're a real sicko and want to get into the minutiae of Dragon Ball AF's production timeline, there's this totally unabridged version: www.kanzenshuu.com/wiki/Dragon_...
I'm building out what is possibly the world's first comprehensive publication history of Toyotaro's AF, and it requires me to go through his old blog post-by-post.
I can't stress enough how proud I am of all of our citation work. It's a large part of what sets us apart from /the other wiki/.
I'm sure I left something out that will haunt me forever, but here is my obligatory "9 games or some such" skeet.
This same studio previewed plans for a Xicor, I just hope they follow through on it!
