For good effect or bad, this rings true. This is first thing I think of when someone holds the door for another person. Or when someone can't leave the house w out causing drama.

Circe by Madeline Miller. This author finds a way to make everything feel plausible & well-researched. A wonderful companion to the Odyssey. This story captures Circe's relationship w Odysseus & others.

The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. This is the Definitive Edition narrated by Selma Blair. The original was edited by her father to remove mentions of sex & some of her clashing w family members. I haven't read this since childhood & came back to view this from an adult's perspective. Anne's ability as an author is stellar. She's approachable, admits her mistakes, & portrays a vast emotional intelligence for a kid.

Sunburn by Chloe Michelle Howarth is her debut novel. It's a sapphic teen love story that takes place in the early 1990's Ireland before homosexuality is decriminalized in Ireland. It's easy for the reader to see the correlation between the laws criminalizing homosexuality & social stigma. The word crafting in this book is beautiful & touching.

My son's wind ensemble in college is on a European tour this week. He plays the French horn. They performed tonight in Prague. Then will perform in Vienna, and also in Germany. It warms my heart so much that he's getting this kind of experience with his college friends.🥹💗📯

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig explores what ingredients constitute a good life. A woman finds a "library" during a suicide attempt & gets to choose which version of life she wants to live.

Historical fiction novel Dodger by Terry Pratchett involves a clever street urchin in London who investigates a crime. He works with Charles Dickens and manages to rescue others along the way.

I love this time of year in SoCal. The jacaranda trees, matilija poppies, and angel's trumpets are in bloom.🌸

The jacaranda tree is a native of South America. It's known for its purple flowers and fern-like leaves.

The matilija poppy is a drought tolerant California native. It blooms from May - August

Angel's trumpet is a native of S. America. The most common color of flower in SoCal is yellow, which is fragrant. This is the pink variety

The Count of Monte Cristo is an adventurous "F around and find out" story.

Sam by Allegra Goodman was story of a girl finding her way after a rough childhood.

The Golem & the Jinni by Helene Wecker has an unlikely bond over finding their way in NY while forces of evil are plotting against them.

A gay man in Lebanon with a smart-mouthed mom care for each other thru the country's upheaval & shitty relatives.

There is a hummingbird nest outside the window. Mama hummingbird has come back after a 1.5 month hiatus for SECOND round of babies. 🤩😍💗🥹🪺 Fingers crossed for all involved.🤞 What a gift it is to witness new life.🙏💗🥹

Because of egg and nest size, hummingbirds can only lay 1 or 2 eggs. This amazing hummer managed to lay 2 eggs, after having raised a chick in Feb.
