Capt Kitching created Western Maritime Institute about 26 years ago. I joined the program advisory committee 20 years back, and l must say how impressed with the ground they have covered since then. Today was our 20th annual meeting for this excellent center of professional maritime training.

The #FOC ship Baltic III owned by world's largest shipping company MSC, and under a Canada Coasting Act waiver at the time, ran aground in Newfoundland Feb 2025. A US company is now starting the salvage in earnest, well over a year after the grounding. CCG released these pics today.

Locals report that Hong Kong flagged bulk carrier, lost power and had to be rescued by tugs while in transit of Haro Strait, south of Vancouver.
