this is a snapshot from a fanfiction that I never finished writing (and that if I finish will require some heavy editing because the prose is clunky at times) but I think there's a little juice here

“Ugh, no, Wolf. That’s not it.”

“What is it, then? Enlighten me, McCloud. Give me one of those D.A.R.E. lessons they sponsor you for.”

“It’s… there’s no way you of all people are gonna let yourself go like that.”

That wasn’t the answer he expected. Wolf raised an eyebrow at him, which Fox understood as a request to keep going.

“I mean, I’ve been convinced you were dead like three separate times, now. Back in Katina, then in Venom, then again after the invasion, and you always manage to come back.” The vulpine frowned, “It’d just be a real shame, you know? The unkillable Lord O’Donnell, who survived crashing right into the ground not once, but twice, who came back unscathed from throwing himself into a swarm of murderous alien bugs and who knows what else — dead at 40 due to lung cancer.”

Wolf inhaled slowly, taking in the tobacco smoke as he processed what the younger pilot was telling him. He did have a point, didn’t he? For a man that had managed to eat shit and spit it back out as many times as he did, kicking the bucket like that would be a bit anticlimactic, wouldn’t it? He’d always assumed something would take him out before his own body got to him, but he was too good to end at the mercy of some Cornerian recruit, that was for sure. But if not that, then what? A heroic death? A death worth telling legends about? Those were reserved for the good guys, right? What would that even look like, for venomian garbage like him? Could he even aspire to something like that? A worthy duel, a final act of self sacrifice… if not even James had been allowed such a death, then—

Before he realized, Wolf had smoked the entire thing in one breath. Fox was looking at him with a frown, and he couldn’t tell if it was because he somehow noticed the turmoil in his head or if he just thought the lupine was making fun of him. It was safer to spin it into the second one.

for the end user the process is the same, you input notes and lyrics, but what the program is doing behind the scenes is different. instead of stitching together existing samples, it generates a sound based on what it "learned" and the phoneme/pitch it's been given (here it is with Una in SynthV)

instead of recording specific syllables and phonemes, the voice provider is recording singing normally. those singing samples are then manually labeled and both the singing and labeling data are fed into a training model, which "learns" how it tends to sounds like when the VP sings each thing

a person is recorded singing syllables in specific pitches, and then in the program when the user inputs notes and lyrics, the engine pitch corrects and mashes those samples together to match the notes that the user input. here's concat in action in UTAU, with Rouon Aro's samples vs splicing

I choose to believe that by drawing him at the beginning of the year some universal mechanism activated itself to ensure that by the end I had spent 40+ hours redrawing his sprites... figures that next year's animal is an ungulate, because I'll be spending 5x that time drawing a LOT of Asterion lol

just 2 hours before of 2025 left, but I've finally fixed this and gave Argos his spots back 🐍 just in time!! I have a lot of fondness for this piece because it ended up being kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy lmao. who knew that 2025 would end up being THE @minohotel.bsky.social year for me?
