"On a 1924 expedition Robert Limbert guessed its age at 150 years, based on appearance alone. A core from this wind-buffeted limber pine gave the first scientifically-based estimate in 1954. The tree's annual growth rings proved the lava must be at least 1350 years old. But how long after the lava cooled did the tree take root? This was an unknown factor.

"More recent measurements utilizing carbon isotopes and paleomagnetic dating methods indicate the flow erupted from North Crater about 2000 years ago — much earlier than initially guessed."

Bee wasn't very happy about the impromptu shower he got when I was watering the flowers.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a Tornado Watch for portions of
Western North Dakota
Northern Nebraska
Western South Dakota

Effective this Saturday afternoon and evening from 305 PM until 1100 PM MDT.

Primary threats include...
A few tornadoes and a couple intense tornadoes possible.
Scattered damaging winds likely with isolated significant gusts to 90 mph possible.
Scattered large hail likely with isolated very large hail events to 3.5 inches in diameter possible.

SUMMARY...Significant severe storms including supercells are expected to develop regionally, with large hail and some tornadoes possible. A prominent damaging wind threat may also unfold into this evening across the western Dakotas.

Veggie garden: planted! 36 pepper plants. I cannot be stopped! Shout-out to my pepper rex, who keeps a watchful eye over them every year.
