I do generally prefer the scenery on the Midland Main Line, but the LNER breakfast options compensate somewhat for the featureless plains of Lincolnshire.

After a few years' absence, the ragwort in our garden has cinnabar moth caterpillars on it. I've seen the adult moth in the garden a couple of times, too. The adult is very pretty, but doesn't sit still long enough to be photographed. The caterpillars, fortunately, just sit there munching.

I was especially pleased to see the corn buntings and hear their key-jangling song. They were very familiar birds when I was cycling to school in the 1980s, but they've declined sharply across much of the UK. Not around Nine Wells, though, there are loads of them! Lovely LBJ friends. #birds

I was travelling to my childhood home today and as it's within easy walking distance of the UK's newest railway station, Cambridge South, I took the opportunity of a visit. It's gorgeous: instantly one of my favourites!

I have just seen Evening All Afternoon at the Donmar Warehouse. It's a two-hander in which a stepmother and stepdaughter try and often fail to connect across very different outlooks and life experiences. Also a play in which the Covid lockdowns are an explicit backdrop. Very good.

Orient worried me by warming up in their grass-green blend-in-with-the-pitch kit. Fortunately they switched to the one that they can actually be seen in for the game itself (they're in blue). The Os are currently 2-0 up. This is what happens when your teammates can see you to pass to you. #LOFC

At the Trafalgar Theatre to see Oh, Mary!, which has been recommended to me by everyone who's seen it. It wasn't originally on my schedule, but the word-of-mouth was so good that I came down from Sheffield for the day specially.

At the Crucible Theatre to see Utopia Theatre's production of Crown of Blood, a Yoruba retelling of Macbeth by Oladipo Agboluaje. I really enjoyed the same company's production of Death and the King's Horseman last year, so am looking forward to this.

My first walk out of the house since coming down with Covid on late Tuesday. Sheffield from Parkwood Springs on a November afternoon: I love my city.
