Today, we proudly stood alongside Healthy Futures in Parliament, as they launched their groundbreaking new report 'All-Electric Healthy Hospitals: a Cost Benefit Analysis'. Replacing gas with renewable electricity in Australian public hospitals would cut hospital energy costs by $59 million a year.
Thanks so much to everyone who came along to our workshop on “Preparing for Climate Impacts on our Health” as part of Adelaide Climate Action Week. You are the antibodies kicking in as the planet fights its fever!
Our final workshop for Adelaide Climate Action Week is happening TOMORROW, 2pm at the Stone & Chalk Adelaide Startup Hub. It’s been a fantastic week, full of important conversations about how we can build resilience in the face of climate change.
Prof Nick Talley discusses growing concerns about the impacts of plastics on human health 👇
Last night at Adelaide Climate Action Week, our ED Dr Kate Wylie joined the panel 'Building Resilient Health Systems in a Changing Climate'. It was a fantastic evening discussing how climate change is affecting our health and what we can do to build more resilient communities and health systems.
Our Climate Resilience Workshops at Adelaide Climate Action Week kick off tomorrow in Middleton, then Adelaide on Saturday! Our workshops are free to attend, but places are limited. Register here: linktr.ee/DEAEVENTS
We get a lot of interesting comments on our social media posts, so we’ve decided to start reviewing them. First up: Richard. Richard wanted to inform us that climate change has finished, presumably last Sunday. Huge if true (it’s not). ⭐️⭐️
Happy National Tree Day 🌳 Trees do so much to support the health and wellbeing of people and the planet. Healthy trees, healthy people. Trees are tremendous, and today is the perfect day to plant one 💚
Climate polluters are fuelling the cost-of-living crisis by driving up energy, food and insurance prices. While they rake in record profits, Australian households are stuck footing the bill.
With it being Plastic Free July, we thought it timely to do a webinar on plastics. The webinar will cover: • Healthcare and its reliance on plastics • The consequences of plastics on human health, including microplastics and endocrine disrupting chemicals • The way forward from here
It's NAIDOC Week! 🖤💛❤️ This year marks an incredible milestone: '50 Years of Deadly'!. For five decades, NAIDOC Week has celebrated the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Learn more about NAIDOC Week here: naidoc.org.au
We have been absolutely blown away by the generosity of our members and supporters 💚 With your support, our team of volunteer doctors and medical students can continue their vital work advocating for climate action to protect human and planetary health.
DEA’s Executive Director, Dr Kate Wylie, writes about climate change as a 'health emergency' in the latest issue of MedicSA. Read the full article on pages 22-25 here: www.flipsnack.com/BA5C9EB569B/...
Today is the last day of our EOFY appeal. DEA is a small organisation that accomplishes great things on a limited budget. We are a registered charity and receive no government funding. We work hard to create a healthier future for all Australians, and we need your support to keep this work going.
With your support, our team of volunteer doctors can continue their vital work advocating for climate action to protect human and planetary health. If you'd like to make a difference, visit our website & donate to our EOFY appeal today: bit.ly/DEAEOFY26
“There is no safe level of air pollution” DEA member, A/Prof Vicki Kotsirilos AM explains how air pollution affects children’s health in Australia. #health #childrenshealth #airpollution
Idling pollutes the air wherever it happens, but near schools and childcare centres it’s especially harmful, because children are right there, walking, playing, & breathing in exhaust at close range. ‘Idle Off’ is parents & doctors working together to encourage drivers to switch their engines off.
Last month in Federal Parliament, the Hon. Matt Thistlethwaite spoke about the Idle Off Campaign, a joint initiative of @parentsforclimate.bsky.social and DEA. Learn more about Idle Off here: www.dea.org.au/idle_off
Happy Global Wind Day! 💨 Today we celebrate the power of wind energy & its potential to reshape our energy systems for the better. Clean energy from wind improves our air & reduces the pollution fuelling climate change, saving money & improving the health of all Australians. It's a win-win-win(d)!
This weekend all donations to our EOFY appeal will be DOUBLED 🎉 This means any support you give will have twice the impact 💚 All donations, no matter how large or small make a huge difference to us and are gratefully received. Double your impact today: dea.supporterhub.net.au/donations/eo...
Happy World Environment Day 💚 This year's theme, "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future," reminds us that nature is one of our most powerful allies in tackling climate change.
DEA member Dr Rob Ferris is featured in this timely article for @croakeynews.bsky.social, warning that the Federal Budget falls short on the action needed to protect communities from growing climate risks. Read the full article here: www.croakey.org/for-intergen...
While there are some welcome measures supporting renewable energy and environmental protection, overall the Federal Budget does not reflect the urgency and gravity of the threat to Australians’ health and wellbeing posed by the interconnected crises of climate change, biodiversity loss & pollution.
Happy 100th Birthday, Sir David Attenborough 💚 For generations, he has opened our eyes to the beauty, wonder and fragility of our natural world, inspiring millions to care more deeply about nature, wildlife, and our shared future on this planet. Thank you for everything, Sir David.
Laureate Professor Nick Talley speaks about why he joined Doctors for the Environment Australia 🩺🌏
Did you see our full page advert in the Sydney Morning Herald today? A huge thank you to the @australiainstitute.org.au for making this happen. Gas is a health hazard. It’s time for the gas industry to be held accountable for the damage they are doing to our health.
Today the DEA WA team attended Woodside's AGM to send a clear message: we will not stay silent while fossil fuel expansion threatens our patients' health. "The day we end coal, oil and gas, Australians will live longer and healthier." - Dr Carolyn Orr, Neurologist.
DEA’s Dr Carolyn Orr, along with Carole Peters and David Lindenmayer speak to the detrimental health and environmental impacts of prescribed burns in this article for ‘The Post’. 🔗 Read the article online here (Page 7): issuu.com/postnews/doc...
WEBINAR: Tonight, the communications agency Populares will be presenting their findings on anti-climate money in the 2025 election. They will share with us fascinating insights into the behind the scenes machinations of the anti-climate lobby and the strategies they use to slow climate action.
Gas is harming our health and our planet. Polluters must be held accountable. They should pay for the damage they're causing and help fund the transition to renewables.
