I was excited about my vegan pizzas and I ended up posting an Instagram story for the first time in about 8 years. Cue multiple jump scares about who is still following my Instagram.

It occurs to me that seeing "liberal democracy" this way, as the only possible salvation of an evil human nature that has doomed us to cruelty for 99% of history, is a kind of re-cathexis of Christian soteriology and eschatology. Funny bc of course people still say that about communism.
If you look at the substantive argument here, the list of things that are supposed to make Hasan's position untenable on the merits, and therefore an example of cruelty for its own sake, consists wholly of things either the US or Israel has also done (usually both).
In his leading example, Elrod criticizes Hasan for saying that, as between Hezbollah and Israel, that "Israel is the actual terrorist." The argument is that Hasan is so wrong that he has departed from moral reasoning to cruelty for its own sake: "for the sake of twisting the knife."
Optimal break-even point where you accept a 33% incremental chance of human extinction over 40 years to get a 55x increase in living standards. The idea that welfare economics lets you generalize this far out of distribution is of course ludicrous. Like what is a 55x increase in living standards?

I expect the protectionism that bans Chinese-made EVs from being sold in the US. But Michigan Democrats are trying to go one better and ban Chinese-made EVs from *physically driving into* the US, "even for daytrips." Because they can take video and send it "straight back to Beijing."
