Posted here are politically relevant notes to myself, publicly available. Apolitical is political; no one is beyond politics, or history. And physics is not a good lens through which to view social reality.
It was inevitable: Iran-Backed Houthis Expand Conflict With Red Sea Blockade
Excellent: "Ukrainians launched a long-range drone attack on targets around Moscow (and other places). The Moscow targets showed a Ukrainian favorite (an oil facility) but also something new—a Wildberries warehouse. The latter went up in a black cloud of smoke." [Link in posts below.]
Zelensky has dangerous repeat flaws: he's not learning. What's his problem? So far he has responded to public pressure and done the right thing. "Basically Zelensky liked backing corrupt and inefficient cronies like Yermak and Syrskyi, and at one point threatened a political crisis in doing so."
Krugman: "The result has been to make the U.S. increasingly irrelevant." [link in post below]
"European leaders have largely given up on hopes that they can bring back the America they used to know, and are quietly, in effect, declaring independence ..."
He sometimes could not help himself and not only wore his vileness on his sleeve but publicly vomited it out, snarling, full of entitlement: the ugly soul on full display.
It's hard to be a Republican and not be an irredeemable lying shithead.
1/2 One of several reason Europe would be foolish to again count on the US for defense is that the American electorate absolutely could soon elect another Trump-like malignant clown. Also, Russia is on the ropes in Ukraine. Terrorism is all they've got now, and everyone knows it. Still, now is ...
But the police and the National Guard should *not* have indulged Trump's lies. They obeyed in advance. This is on them — the individuals who behaved antithetically to what their job requires. They facilitated authoritarianism; they further corrupted their organizations.
The war situation has developed not necessarily to Russia's advantage. But Putin is not even a Hirohito; for the man whose life is a lie, Russian "victory" is always inevitable. Smart money, however, is that Ukraine will liberate all occupied territory, including Crimea.
Police State, brought to the USA by Republicans. It is Republicans who did this.
"a candidate as flawed as Avila Chevalier could win only against a complacent political machine that’s lost touch with the people it’s supposed to represent."
T. Snyder: "... the justification for putting soldiers (and ICE) on the streets during an election, or claiming that a terrorist attack (most likely a fake one) means that we have to have a state of emergency instead of an election, or something else along those lines."
"Psychologists have long suggested that narcissism is like a drug — it leaves people craving a regular supply of attention and validation. Remote work deprives leaders of access to that supply."
Over 77 million voted for this in-your-face-obvious malignant ass-clown. Turns out, America was *already* great, in the MAGA way. And the MAGAs, i.e., Republicans, have been making it so much greater every day. It could be that MAGA was always America's manifest destiny, because the rot runs deep.
The fascists are always already in place, eager to do the ground work of the fascist regime once it gets in place. And then it grows.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) remains, of course, a jerk. It's hard for him not to be a jerk, given that it's hard to be a Republican and not be a jerk, and he's a Republican.
Get a good look at this: A majestic creature killed by home-grown endemic American evil:
Bighorn sheep are majestic creatures. I have seen them, but only rarely, in the Southern California desert. You would have to be a total asshole-moron to think to deploy concertina wire where wildlife roam. More sickening evil brought to the world by Republicans and their 77-million voters.
