Private Walter Gilbert died of his wounds on 6th January 1916 in France aged 25. He is buried at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension Nord, France. #doncasterplantworks #WW1 #doncaster
On 4th July 1914 he started work at the Doncaster Plant as a Fitters Labourer. He joined the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI) 10th Battalion. Rank Private. Service No. 18346. #WW1 #doncasterplant
Men who worked at the Doncaster "Plant" with military links: Walter Gilbert was born on 3rd August 1890, Doncaster, Yorkshire. He was the son of George Gilbert and Emma Jane Robinson. In 1911 Walter’s occupation was a Carter aged 20, he lived with his family at 6 Wesley Place, Doncaster, Yorkshire.
4. Around this period (the late 1880s and 1890s), the Doncaster branch steadily grew, eventually recording over 1,000 enrolled young members on its active local rolls. #history

4. The execution took place near Vlamertinghe in the Ypres Salient on 25th of June 1918. An ambulance drew up and Walter was led out under escort to a nearby rifle range. He was then bound to a chair, blindfolded and a piece of white paper placed over his heart. #shotatdawn #WW1
3. He went absent during the Ludendorff Offensive in 1918. He had previously served as a Machine Gunner with 3 different Companies, one of which provided the firing squad. He was shot on 25th June 1918 aged 22. He is buried at Hagle Dump Cemetery, Belgium. #WW1 #shotatdawn
2. In 1911 Walter Dossett aged 15 occupation Assist Chair Works Furniture Works, lived with his family at 44 Martin Street, Upperthorpe, Sheffield, Yorkshire. In 1915 Walter joined the York and Lancaster Regiment 1st/4th Battalion. Machine Corps. Service No. 45980, 5848, 83195. #WW1

Kevin Keegan a football icon was born in Armthorpe, Doncaster, has died today aged 75. He played for Liverpool in 1971, with whom he won the FA Cup, the European Cup, the UEFA Cup twice and the First Division title three times. RIP. #football #doncaster

7. In later life Alice lived at Ridgehome, Bawtry Road, Doncaster. She died on 18th February 1939. She is buried along with her husband at Hyde Park Cemetery. #wimbledon #yorkshire.
6. Alice worked more than 10,000 hours At the Arnold hospital and was awarded the MBE in 1918 for her wartime contributions and was decorated by the King at Buckingham Palace. #wimbledon #yorkshire
4. She again reached the all-comers final in the following year, but this time lost to Blanche Bingley. In 1896, she won the doubles competition at the Irish Championships with Ruth Durlacher. #wimbledon
2. On 28th July 1886 she married William Henry Pickering in Tow Lane, County Durham. They had one son Basil Henry Pickering. In 1911 the family ived at Lawn House, Doncaster. #wimbledon
5. On the 6th September 1917, Sergeant Wall was executed by firing squad, for desertion, at Poperinghe. He was 22 years of age. He is buried at Poperinghe New Military Cemetery Belgium. #WW1 #shotatdawn
2. In 1912 he enlisted in the Worcestershire Regiment 1st Battalion as a Drummer Boy. Service No. 13216. He had served on the Western Front from the beginning of WW1. #shotatdawn #WW1
3. Private Sarah Tye is the only female CWGC casualty to be buried at Moorthorpe Cemetery. #VAD #WW2 #yorkshire
2. Sarah joined the Voluntary Aid Detachment Members (VAD). Rank Private. Service No. W/661841. Regiment: Women’s Services. Sarah died on 24th August 1944 while serving her country aged 34. She is buried at Moorthorpe Cemetery, Yorkshire. #VAD #WW2 #yorkshire
1. Women at War WW2: We remember Sarah Tye. Sarah Tye was born on 6th April 1910, Ardsley, Yorkshire. She was the daughter of Harry Tye and Emily Fleetwood. In 1939 Sarah’s occupation was a Domestic Servant in Leeds and lived at 7 Lidgett Park Road.#VAD #WW2 #yorkshire
3. Frank joined the 9th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment. Rank Private. Service No. 18861. He was killed in action on 1st July 1916, the opening day of the Battle of the Somme aged 39. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France. #mexboroughwarmemorial #WW1
2. In 1905 he married Myra Florence Bamforth, and they went on to have four children. In 1911 Frank’s occupation was a Dataller at Denaby Main Colliery. The family lived at 5 Mills Court Hill Street, Mexborough, Yorkshire. #mexboroughwarmemorial #WW1
3. Royal Naval Reserve. Rank Able Seaman. Service Number Zt/4398. On 23rd April 1917 Able Seaman was killed in action aged 19. He is remembered on the Arras Memorial, France. #WW1 #doncasterplant
