Ottawa has been bathed in a very odd light this morning, a consequence of nearby forest fires and a very warm and humid air mass.
105 years ago today was my grandmother's wedding day - easy to remember because it is also Bastille Day (that fact was repeated to me countless times). The wedding was covered in the local paper (the Russell Banner) - it seems to have been quite the event. #familyhistory

My father in the fall of 1953. On July 31, 1953, he was diagnosed with polio during an epidemic in Winnipeg. He spent several months in hospital. He took a shine to his occupational therapist while he was in the hospital, and ended up marrying her the following spring.

What a dick. He manipulates the narrative to somehow equate “false and misleading information” and “social media posts the government doesn’t like”. And, in the process, shows exactly how such false and misleading information is spread.

Old Ottawa South - the trees grew around the wires/cables, so parts of them were simply left in place. A local curiosity.
Hot day in Ottawa, though not nearly as hot as it it is in Europe. Friends and family there are really sweltering. We’re supposed to get a mass of hot and humid air very soon.
A meal in a restaurant was a rarity for us in the mid-60s - this is likely in the dining room at the Charleswood Motor Hotel, about the only option in the neighbourhood at the time. (I'm in front with the bow tie - the other lad is my big brother) It must've been a special occasion of some kind.

Ottawa residents have probably seen Carlo and his truck trundling through their ’hood. His business model hasn’t changed in decades - he drives slowly and dings his bell. I guess at one time people would run out with their knives and whatnot to sharpen. But I‘ve never seen him with a customer.
