Books. Movies. Fun. 🏳️🌈👬
I’ve been reading the James Bond books over the years and just finished this one which is silly fun aside from miserable lines like this: “All women love semi-rape. They love to be taken. It was his sweet brutality against my bruised body that had made his act of love so piercingly wonderful.” Ugh!
5am and I’m out for a walk on the beach before I need to sign on for work. It was too hot to sleep so I took a quick trip to the ocean to cool off.
My scale wished me Happy Birthday (which is tomorrow, the 15th) and it made me smile… until I thought about it for 10 seconds and realized, no. This is just another example of me living in a a technology dystopian nightmare.
It’s hot out so it’s a good time to sit in air conditioning and see Mary Pickford’s last silent film My Best Girl.
Did anyone else catch the bad edit in tonight’s Drag Race where they (I assume) accidentally put in a shot from last week?
New York Times gunna keep New York Timesing. Seriously, THIS is how they are framing their top story?
This is my friends’ adorable cat Keller, who is blind. She helped keep me company during my LA visit.
Spent the afternoon at The Huntington so of course I had to take another selfie with one of my favorite Constable paintings. And they have a corpse flower too.
I’m in L.A. for the weekend and it’s a perfect morning. Got to walk to my favorite cafe while listening to Confessions II and made a new friend on the way.
Latest read: The Bridge of San Luis Rey. It’s great and there is a lot in there for only 106 pages. Evidently this is often taught in high school but I think I would have hated it at that age.
I know I have a few mutuals who will be very excited with today’s framed.wtf game.
If you subscribe to the Criterion Channel you only have 2 days left to see this specific version of Eno before it changes in the new month. It’s wonderful.
***Partial Drag Race Spoiler*** I’d be more excited about today’s Drag Race All Star bracket result if Morgan, who won 2 of her 3 challenges, was also allowed a tie win.
They are doing a Marilyn Monroe film festival this summer and tonight I watched Clash By Night for the first time. Amazing acting by almost everyone but the script, adapted from a play, was clunky.
I put it off as long as I could, but now… my employer’s mandatory AI training has begun.
Feeling good for the first time in a week after suffering through a bad cold. Rewarding myself with a margarita may have helped boost my mood.
Remember in 2013 when this book was a runaway bestseller and placed front & center of every bookstore? I assumed it must have been great detective story but it was not. Or maybe it’s my fault for waiting 13 years before reading it. 🤷♂️
The new He-Man movie is good, actually. Don’t worry, I know nobody is going to agree with me. But it’s very 1980 Flash Gordon and includes many homages to it.
I’m high up in the balcony tonight but that’s all right because I still get to experience the incredible Alison Moyet.
I stumbled across the original Airport on TCM and it’s surprisingly watchable. It’s fun to see how it inspired Airplane! which I’ve seen a million times.
