The North Saskatchewan River flows through the picture with a milky green-grey appearance of the water, caused by rock "flour" which the glaciers produce. While the other side of the river is forested, the near side shows some sandy patches, almost like a beach. A small rock and some trees add to the beauty of the place. High mountains rise behind the forest on the other side.

In a liberal interpretation of “garden” the courtyard of the Chiesa di San Giorgio dei Greci may serve as such. This gate was wonderfully rusty some 10 years ago but then was renewed and is now almost as good as new. Still, it protects this entrance even though visitors can enter elsewhere. The church is very well known among visitors of Venice because of its leaning tower.

The new staircase (from 2016) leading from the “Hofgarten” (palace garden) to the (former) renaissance residence of the princes of Hohenlohe-Öhringen must physically be walked up spending energy but it’s elegant shape for sure hands back some spiritual energy in exchange!

The palace complex of Schleissheim is among the largest and most impressive of the Wittelsbach dynasty’s residences in Bavaria. The Old Palace originated in the early 17th century as a ducal country mansion. The Baroque palace buildings, the monumental New Palace and the hunting lodge of Lustheim were built by Elector Max Emanuel (r. 1680-1726).

The façade and interior decoration were designed starting in 1719 – using the most fashionable late Baroque style from France – by the new court architect, Joseph Effner, who had been trained in Paris. The New Palace had only just been completed when the Elector died in 1726.

$The Goulphar Lighthouse (Phare de Goulphar or Grand Phare de Kervilahouen) is a lighthouse on Belle-Île-en-Mer in France in the Brittany region. It is a granite tower combining the technical buildings and the keepers' lodgings, designed by Augustin Fresnel who is famous for his contribution to the theory of light, the invention of catadioptric (reflective/refractive) Fresnel lenses and for pioneering the use of stepped lenses in lighthouses. This increased visibility of the light beam and saved many lives out at sea. Th lighthouse is 52,25m high and has a range of 50km.$

A grey heron is looking for some food in a shallow basin that is part of the Citadel of Kopenhagen, the fortress which protected the harbor (and the little Mermaid which is very close). It was a rainy day and I think the heron was successful a little while later.

Marsh-marigold has the German trivial name Sumpfdotterblume. Seemingly it has at times (or in regions) been called "Dotterblume" (which translates to yolk flower) because of its yellow blossoms. And since it prefers wet areas "Sumpf" (bog) was added. So we get "bog yolk flower" :-)

St Nicholas Church in Prague is already lit by the morning sun while the Jan Hus memorial is still in the shade, creating a strong contrast.

A view of Lustheim Palace with Fritillaria imperialis - or crown imperial - plants in front of it. They remind me of a visit in Versailles where the gardeners were removing the Fritillaria plants and my wife could get a few for our garden at home. But the crown imperial also reminds us of Napoleon Bonaparte who was responsible for the ascension of Bavaria from duchy to kingdom in 1806. The alliance with France in that time organized primarily by Count of Montgelas led to the new structure of the Bavarian state which still persists nowadays. Crown imperials are seemingly also called Kurdish tulips but I do not have the slightest idea why.

A butterfly with an interesting pattern on its wings is feeding on a slice of orange. An animals app said it was from the Nymphalidae family but that is the biggest butterfly family so it does not say much more than "this is a butterfly".
