I really appreciate that #hashtags are more functional here than on Twitter, but I also think that they should consider adding an option to not display them in line. I would use them a lot more if I didn't need to add a bunch of noise at the end of a skeet.

This makes perfect sense to me. It's like the mortifying ordeal meme. Offering something that people can engage with superficially is a lot less personally taxing and revealing. If things go well you can always open up later.
