I wrote No Common Ground, in part, to help communities address the landscapes of their towns. Because the real work happens at the local level. Glenna Moore of Franklin, VA, led the campaign to erect a USCT monument & change the narrative in her part of VA. Not all sheroes wear capes. 🗃️

Current events & the Jan 6 anniversary have prompted people to say this is the "new" Lost Cause. As someone whose research on the LC is exhaustive, I can tell you this: it is a shape-shifting racist narrative--useful in the late 19thc., then again at mid-20thc., and again from Reagan to Trump.
