Went to the wind phone today. Picked up the receiver to talk to my Mum. No dial tone, but some conversations don't need a connection to be real. Miss you every day, Mum. Love you always. 🪽👼💔
Enjoyed a fab day at Nithraid, Dumfries' boat race & festival on the River Nith. Boats lower masts (or deliberately capsize) to pass under 3 bridges along the route. Winning crew launch the Salty Coo, a salt crystal covered cow representing livestock & salt, key trade goods. 🐄⛵
It's the Interceltic flag or Pan-Celtic flag, a design used to represent solidarity among the Celtic nations (Brittany, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, Isle of Man). The centre symbol is a triskele, 3 interlocking spirals, a Celtic symbol, representing land, sea & sky, past, present & future.
Incredible sight: Brioc, a replica high medieval leather boat, has sailed from Brittany all the way round England, Wales and now Scotland. The crew navigate, dress and cook exactly as their medieval counterparts would have⛵️ bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn0n259yx7no
Sunday reset: There's something about a quiet walk by the loch that puts the whole week into perspective. Best way to start a Sunday. Still water, listening to the birds, summer sunshine and nowhere to be.🚶♀️🌊🌄💙
Lovely exhibition at Gracefield Arts Centre, Dumfries on our best friends, through an artist's eye 🐾 "A Dog's Life". International artists exploring our love of dogs, featuring William Wegman, David Shrigley, Sophie Ryder & more dgculture.co.uk/event/gallery-2-a-dogs-life 🐶 🦮 🐩 🐕🦺 🐾
Cutting flowers, picking salad, hens snoozing in the sunshine. This is the good life. 😍🌸🥬🐔
Love my after-work ritual, cycling to the harbour: cold drinks, beautiful views, summer sunsets. Doesn't get better than this. Best way to end a workday. 😍
Sweet Williams stealing the show in the garden this week 🌸 #Gardening #SweetWilliam #SummerBlooms
My corner of Scotland never disappoints. A perfect weekend coastal walk, topped off by watching Northern Gannets dive at 60mph into the Firth 🌊. #NorthernGannets #WildScotland
Amazing visit to El Djem's famous 35,000 spectator amphitheatre.
A walk around Matmata, a mountain village and the backdrop for several Star Wars films. We enjoyed a lovely visit to a local Berbers' troglodyte home, an underground dwelling carved into the earth.
Enjoying an incredible time in the Sahara Desert. Fab visit to the one of the sets of episode I of Star Wars The Phantom Menace, Mos Espa, in the middle of the sand dunes. Lots of Star Wars was filmed in Tunisia.
Kairouan, a city steeped in history and culture. Enclosed within its massive walls lies a medina filled with mosques and countless carpet shops.
Visited Dougga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site & Tunisia's best-preserved ancient city. This remarkable site showcases a blend of Roman, Punic & Berber influences, offering a glimpse into the lives of the 5,000 people who once called it home. Enjoyed exploring its impressive ruins.
Cheese heaven 🧀✨ Testour, a small hilltop town in northern Tunisia, is known for its centuries-old cheese-making tradition. Dating to the early 1600s, it was shaped by Muslim and Jewish communities who settled there after leaving Spain, now a quiet hub of artisan cheese. 🐭🧀
Sidi Bou Said is famous for its whitewashed buildings and vibrant blue accents. It's a popular destination for artists, diplomats, and the elite. The doors have intricate designs and an interesting detail is that the more nails a door has, the wealthier its owners are.
Enjoyed exploring the ancient city of Carthage with its amphitheatre, cathedral and port.
I love mosaics. The National Bardo Museum has the best collection of Roman mosaics, I've ever seen.
Loving Hammamet with its stunning 10km stretch of beach, winding medina streets, vibrant souks, and great nightlife.
Lovely weekend walk along the bay and returning back to the beach via quiet country lanes with waving wheat fields. ❤️
Suddenly the woods are all green. Everywhere you look there is new growth and life. The squirrels are out of hibernation. The beautiful bluebells are enjoying their moment. This morning, I enjoyed it all to myself, listening to the birds and it was utter peaceful bliss. 🌳🐿️
