Senior Associate, China Warfighting Initiative, Marine Corps War College. Focuses: China’s territorial disputes, Taiwan, ASEAN. Writing a book on the seabed! Opinions my own.
www.defensenews.com/industry/tec... Errrrr pretty sure LSMs predate Golden Fleet
Every time after I visit Taipei my mandarin tutor feels a phantom shudder as they sense I’m about to suddenly start bothering them a lot more
Met Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim! Unforgettable trip. I owe UC Berkeley a reflection paper after this and have a lot to think on. Supremely grateful they brought me along for this.
Finally got to meet former Premier of Taiwan Su Tseng-chang 蘇貞昌 and hear him talk about the Formosa Magazine trials. Very humbling experience. It’s difficult to conceive of how to fight for democracy when you live in one. moments like this are a reminder there WAS a fight, and it really never ends.
Got to say ‘deep sea mining is basically a scam’ at UC-Berkeley yesterday! Great time.
You read Pantsov’s Victorious in Defeat? If you want something out of left field the new biography of Martin Sostre is incredibly good.
We're crowd-sourcing a War Studies syllabus and running some seminars for members of our writing group on it. Feel free to send feedback and additional readings! Substack email is LiuAnKing@pm.me dassembly.substack.com/p/our-war-st...
Global Taiwan Institute announced their US-Taiwan Task Force this year. Quite the mix of folks. Not many younger experts.
I’ll be at National Taiwan University on June 4, talking on a panel. I’ll be covering some research me and a team recently did on industrial applications of AI (not my usual thing…) Say hi if you’re around!! I’ll be in town for a couple weeks.
Something not encountered before! Uzbekistani grocery in NYC?! Good stuff. Modern age = incredible. Not sure how I got by before
not been spared the requirement to write on ai these days I despised learning all this stuff. “agentic,” “full-stack,” “diffusion,” genuinely enraged I had to read these words and learn what they mean and etcetera etcetera will never forgive
The article is rampant with people who apparently have no understanding of how the ATA or intel works. Despite being touted as ‘intel’ sources who should know better This particular line, though, made me laugh.
Wrote up something on the PLA and siege warfare for China Military Studies Review (the new journal from the Marine Corps War College). coauthor is Blueskyless but kudos and credit to Aaron Dai as well! Doin lot of mercenary work for MCU lately, highly recommend. www.usmcu.edu/Portals/218/...
quite a lot has happened since the BBG(X) or BBL or whatever was announced. But I forgot this (short) reaction I wrote publishes tonight! On dassembly.substack.com
Commander Andrew Yen, Coastguard attaché of the de facto Taiwan embassy in Manila, paid courtesy visit to Philippine Coast Guard’s MARSLEC HQ. Neat stuff! Probably more cooperation in future
Just absolutely braindead. How can I get paid to write a vapid opinion on a speech I clearly didn’t actually listen to? (and if u can struggle thru whole thing it’s abundantly clear he not only didn’t listen to it he is blissfully unaware of anything this admin’s actually doing to the military)
checking in on Palladium because someone told me how utterly downhill it had fallen and I didn’t believe them but wow. just the absolute stupidest things on the planet up there.
(4) This is what I liked the most and is immutably correct, will not take any questions or criticism on this thx
(3) No MLR is getting from Palawan to Taiwan. It is just not going to happen; this goes back to the mismatch between SIF hopes and ABO reality.
