Horn + ears. I always wear it on my last day of queer class to remind them to center radical authenticity and joy, bring color into a drab world, and that anyone can be the unicorn of their dreams.
Happy Last Day of Queer Social Work Class, from our learning community to you. So proud of these students for showing up so fully and authentically, even during the fall of empire, climate crisis, and more. I cannot wait to see the social workers that they become (posted with consent, of course).
Yesterday, got to go celebrate at the Disabilty Network’s 36th anniversary of ADA celebration. Also got to see my art on the wall of the gallery for the first time as an adult, which was really meaningful, especially as my hand pain has made it nigh on impossible for me to do it anymore.
Missing my partner/creature Emily who is out of town for the next week. I’ll be happy once all my people are back where they are supposed to be. I’m perfectly polysaturated and so loved and in love. It’s wild to feel this way as the world is collapsing…AND I’m just so lucky to have found my loves.
Went to the local flea market today with my partner Sky who’s been out of town for 5 weeks. So glad to be connected again! Also bought my partner Allie the most obscure random 1960s polka vinyl because I loved it and wanted to introduce them….turns out they already have a copy!
Should I be grading? Yes. Did I spend my limited energy this afternoon whimsy-ing my car by upcycling these pre-loved Squishmallows into headrests covers? Also yes. These represent two of my special interests; Cephalopods 🐙 🌊 (and bonus manta ray), and gardening 🥕 🍆
For a bit of a palette cleanse, I present to you one of my sons, who has fallen asleep in one of my plants. I feel like I should start a cat calendar.
Happy Juneteenth to all my Black comrades celebrating!!! ❤️💚🖤
EMU is SO lucky to have her joining their school of social work this fall, and I for one am so selfishly please to have them sticking around. From connecting as a guest on a podcast of theirs years ago to colleagues in the field, what a delightful journey it has been.
My very first #BabyPhD that I advised from start to finish officially has become a full PhD today! Congratulations to Dr. @ebgross.bsky.social ( @srgcollective.bsky.social member) on their incredibly poignant dissertation looking as parent/trans child dads regarding support of trans young people.
Thank you to the team putting on the Global Accessibility Awareness Day event for having me as the keynote.
May the 4th be with you. And may we all resist empire as it falls.
I am so incredibly honor and a little floored to get to share that I am receiving the Professional Standard of Excellence Award from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists this year.
I love gardening. I am too disabled to garden the way I want. Food costs are rising. We are likely to see shortages as 70% of US farmers can’t afford fertilizer this year. So I am gardening anyways. Potato’s, beans, tomatoes, herbs, peppers, onion. Things to help feed my community. How about you?
As a palette cleanser for your feed, please accept this image of Vlad on a walk in his little sailor suit!
I’m pretty angry that BlueSky labeled this image adult content. 1) if it is about how I look, there are no “sexual areas” there, or even a front or back view. People post much more “sexual” pictures at their beach daily. 2) disabled teens also have sexuality needs and experiences
Guess who is going to be on NPR’s 1A next week? Everyone’s favorite queer femme crip (other than @drsamischalk.bsky.social)! That’s right; a whole hour on sexuality and disability! That’s next Wednesday, April 22nd, at 11am Eastern.
If you consider yourself progressive or a leftist or a radical, and don’t mask in public spaces (because disabled and immunocompromised folks belong in ALL spaces) and especially in organizing spaces, your activism is performative and not justice centered. I will not be taking notes.
Today’s UM-SSW Spirit Week themed day is “Dress Your Birth Year.” Keep in mind I got dressed in about seven minutes, but voila. Child of the 80s.
Today’s UM-SSW spirit week’s day was PJ Day. For class, I wore my Peridot Robes caftan, and for the neurodiversity panel tonight, popped on my Lisa Frank caftan. Please excuse exhausted vibes; was up till 4am after tornado chaos.
A) we, the whole polycule, and all 8 animals belonging to it, are all safe from tornados in MI. B) Arti has decided he would like to be a storm chaser and would like more “tornado treats please!”
It’s spirit week at (graduate) school. I am a sucker for dressing up (obviously). Today is dress like your water bottle. What do you think?
I want to elevate my PhD student EB Gross has this brilliant article critiquing the NASW code of ethics as a risk management system, not ethics/values. It’s not been cited much, but HAS been read 20,000+ times, likely assigned in lots of classes. Reminder that not all impact comes from citations.
Self of my very tired/MCAS swollen self before my workshop on autism and sexuality through the life course, and also the amazing charcuterie board one of my partners made me to get through offering such a long training. ND4ND // T4T 💞🏳️⚧️♾️🌈
One of my partners says “autism month should be where everyone gives autistic ppl money and stuffies, not making u do more work educating them.” If you’d like to contribute to my stuffie collection, please let me know. Please enjoy this picture of me and Hemi (Hematite), a favorite dragon friend.
Some professors: “Don’t contact me outside of class or office hours; those are the times I am available to you. Me: *students sends me pictures of clitoral ultrasounds on signal because they know how excited I’ll be, telling me I can use it for anything* We are not the same 😂
the youngest of our brood has not yet figured out how to sit properly, so is chilling like this in bed.
On the other hand, the much smaller tiny black cat has taken over my lingerie chest and refuses to cede ground.
In case you need a palette cleanser: Oliver, our 26-lb lad seal, caught in the action going through the toy basket today.
