I like watching the tiny hummingbirds swarm around the blossoms on this tree in my back yard. I planted it about 10 years ago, and twice since then it has been killed back almost to the ground by a deep freeze, but it eventually grows back. It's about 7 ft tall right now.
This book has a terrific chapter on the longstanding petty personal feud between FDR and Humphreys. Fun fact: Humphreys refused to resign, and then unexpectedly died in his sleep at age 57. The autopsy report I found online (?!) listed the cause of death as "natural causes." At age 57, not sick. 🤔
Today I read this short nonfiction essay by Tolstoy and really enjoyed it. At the end of his life, he really poured his heart out in a series of nonfiction writings, and it's quite moving.
