I've previously posted this brightly coloured stink bug: having a smelly defense system doesn't take away from the beauty.
Another surprise from Yeppen Lagoon, Rockhampton. I don't ever recall seeing Australian Wood Ducks afloat, I've seen some on dry land eating vegetation. There was actually a flock of ~30 birds bobbing around on the water: this photo is a close-up of just 3 of them. #photography #nativebird
A closer look at one of the spoonbills in my previous post, just to prove I wasn't imaging things. Photo has been cropped to centre the bird. #photography #nativebird
I have again been surprised by a species of bird, that I did not know lived in this area: Spoonbill. There were 3 high in a dead tree, along with a heron. Photo taken in South Rockhampton. #photography #nativebird
A late afternoon photo by Yeppen Lagoon, in Rockhampton. I was taking my usual photos of birds perched on a log across the lagoon, when I realised there was one on my side of the lagoon. A little pied cormorant on a branch, silhouetted by late afternoon sun. #phtography #nativebird
My usual aim at Yeppen Lagoon, Rockhampton is to capture the abundant birdlife. But in this instance, the cormorants/darters standing on the log were photo-bombed by passing cattle. #photography #nativebird
@coffeedave.bsky.social This was my photographic experiment a couple of days ago: I (re)found a mobile phone "clip-on lens kit" I bought something like a decade ago, & decided to give it a go with my current phone. Results weren't great, but it was an amusing hour or so. #photography
I was up on Mt. Archer in Rockhampton, taking sunset photos and got a shock when I downloaded the photos, because I had not seen the windmill generators on the horizon. Next day, I took a bigger camera up to the spot to try to get clearer photos! #photography #horizon #sunset
It's not a shag on a rock, it's a cormorant on a post! Taken at Yeppen Lagoon, Rockhampton. #photography #nativebird
I've been so busy scrolling, I forgot to share photos! Here's a sunset view of Yeppen Lagoon in Rockhampton, with a thin mist over the water high-lighted. #photography
Do two confused magpies count? Which way are we going? #BirdOnAWire #BirdOfTheDay
I was near Yeppen Lagoon at sunset yesterday, when I spotted a sunbeam with a cloud of bugs "dancing" in it: #photography #insects
I have a fair few "Lorikeets in foliage" myself. They do like to hide don't they? Here's a sulphur crested cockatoo doing the same: #photograpy #nativebirds
There aren't a lot of sulphur crested cockatoos around right now, but what they lack in numbers, they make up for with volume. These two seem to be going "Who said that?": #photography #nativebird
@yllekaj.bsky.social another of my "while I was hanging out washing" discoveries. It fluttered around me, then promptly hid under a leaf ... but second time around, posed nicely: #photography #butterfly
A photo taken just now, of a sulphur crested cockatoo leaning into the SE wind at the top of a neighbourhood gum tree. #photography #nativebird
I drove up the mountain for sunset photos, but when I returned home was presented with the scene of 2 sulphur crested cockatoos seemingly arguing in a nearby tree. This one claimed victory: #photography #nativebird
The sunlight was streaming in the perfect direction across a wall to throw some long shadows, even for ants. #photography
I went to check the mail, this bright fellow was sitting on top. #photography
@yllekaj.bsky.social the cheeky butterfly was back and sitting still! I even got a photo with it's wings spread. The colourful spots were more purple to my eye than is shown in the photo. #photography #butterfly
@yllekaj.bsky.social at least one of the fluffy babies has survived into adulthood! This photo from yesterday. ##photography #birds
It seems the rain has made a happy hunting ground of my front yard & footpath: returning to the house, there were 3 crows and 3 masked lapwings all catching bugs etc. Attached is a photo of one of the crows, loudly expressing an opinion. #photography #birds
A monster lurking in the shadows! Oh alright the big hairy spiders aren't the ones to be scared of: #photography
A phone photo of Rockhampton from Mt.Archer, the rain has arrived as predicted.
For anyone who missed it, here's the blood moon eclipse: #photography #bloodmoon #fullmoon #eclipse
The good part of driving a quiet EV is turning into your driveway & the local magpie ignores you & continues digging in the lawn for tasty snacks: #photography #phone #nativebird
