Jake - Denver, CO Economist. Data lover. Sports fan. Gamer. Kolache maker. I'm a utilitarian that believes neither economic system is perfect and that a combination of policies can lead to a more ideal economic system.
Also, Donavan McKinney has held on to win his race against Shri Thanedar!
This is something I had forgot about creating, but feel it's worthy of sharing. While I believe that Utility Theory explains my we are seeing a trend towards mixed economic systems, what determines whether or not an industry should be more privately controlled or more publicly controlled? #EconSky
When you remember that Israel comes to Haley Stevens in her dreams, this post makes a lot more sense!
This graph shows how the US oil inventory is holding out compared to previous years. The most recent data point for 2026 was on 7/20 and shows oil inventories are already trending much lower than in previous years. Same time last year, US oil inventories where 26,000 barrels more than now. #EconSky
What a wild ride for the markets today! The Fed decided to hold rates steady, which brought the S&P and NASDAQ back into positive territory, but then every market fell to a new daily low after bond yields began to spike. 3 out of the 12 chairmen voted for a rate hike. #EconSky
At best this is proof McConnell can sit upright. I think it's very telling that after several weeks of people wondering what the hell is going on his office still won't release a video or even a photo at a different angle. All we get is yet another AI looking photo.
Brent Crude Oil futures jumped $4 today to $95.04 largely due to the blockade of ships from or destined to ports in Saudi Arabia NY the Houthis in Yemen. This makes it so most oil coming from gulf states must go through the Suez canal or a pipeline. #EconSky
Stephen King is really weird sometimes. He made a couple strange comments about the Epstein client list last year that stirred up some controversy and also made an odd comment regarding a publishing company refusing to publish Woody Allen's memoir back in 2020.
With 98.4% of ballots counted, @melatkirosco.bsky.social has surged to a whopping 13% and 20,000 vote lead! While I predicted she would win rather easily, I don't think anyone was expecting such a dominant win from the 29 year old Democratic Socialist. #cd1
What's funny to me is that these crowds seem consistently smaller than we would see at the national mall on any normal summer day.
I just read a story that Degette aligned PACs have funneled well over a million dollars in ads to try and sway the vote last minute. So I tested it out on Youtube Shorts to see how fast I would get an ad... 3. 3 shorts in and I got this ad with a meger 53 likes.
I'm so sick of the sane washing from media outlets like @apnews.com. If we are shooting at each why are we still trying to call it a ceasefire?
Can hardly move here at No Kings Denver. Marching next to the Mayor
The IA bubble is definitely a major worry in the stock market right now, but I'd argue the bigger issue to most investors is the fact that Trump is clearly manipulating the markets so that his rich pals can do some risk-free insider trading to pad their wallets. #econsky #stockmarket
This was posted on the Packers subreddit... It's like Ohtani to the Dodgers all over again
The last Q1 GDP estimate from the Atlanta Federal Reserve is -2.7%. The Gold Adjusted GDP dropped sharply to -1.5% due to non-monetary gold imports/exports being weaker than expected. Q1 GDP will be announced at 8:30ET tomorrow. #EconSky
The Economic Policy Uncertainty Index shot up from 426.16 in March to 766.50 in April, which is the highest this index has ever recorded for the US. The next highest month? September 2008. Which is when the US government put Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac into conservatorship during the GFC. #EconSky
I was wondering why the market dropped sharply this morning...
Same graph comparing recent Dow Jones losses just with the full historical data of the market crashes during the Great Recession and Great Depression. #EconSky
Here is a graph of the Dow Jones Industrial Index over the last 40 days (orange) overlaid with the Dow Jones over the first 40 days both the Great Recession and Great Depression. After 40 days: Great Recession = -11.20% Great Depression = -15.81% Today = -14.38% #EconSky
