We are an ecology charity that preserves long-term experiments (LTEs) to understand how environmental changes affect different habitats over long timescales. #LongTermExperiments #Ecology
Our #charity #AnnualReport has now been published which highlights our achievements & finances for 2025. Everyone can read our report here: tinyurl.com/ECTReport2025

ICYMI, the date for the #RLASSymposium 2027 has been announced. The theme for the second symposium is Designing Landscape Projects for Impact & it will take place in Manchester on the 3-4 February 2027. Watch this space: https://tinyurl.com/RLAS2027 #ResilientLandscapesAndSeas 🌏
“Long-term studies are the only way that cumulative or slow-acting impacts can be detected”. This is why we support #researchers doing #LongTermExperiments #LTEs. The quote is from this @cp-trendsecolevo.bsky.social paper: bit.ly/3lMqu8i 🌏
Join our #LongTermExperiment #LTE user group if: You are interested in LTEs You want to become part of a wider network You want to participate in knowledge exchange & you want your LTE #ecology news to reach more people More information & how to join is here: bit.ly/ECTUserG #Research #Network
A new paper from the Park Grass #LTE has shown that polyculture can actually mitigate against #environmental risks (weather variability & #soil treatment) that usually threaten monoculture. This has implications for systems #agroecology. See the paper: https://tinyurl.com/r7vabprp
We are happy to welcome 2 new #trustees! Rebecca Roberts who joins as a #trustee works at @rbgkew.bsky.social Wakehurst, & Lindsey Atkinson who joins the Board as the Honorary Secretary is a retired plant #environmental #physiologist. Read their bios: https://bit.ly/4o1Jgrz #Charity
We are facing #environmental change. But #evidence from #ecological #LongTermExperiments #LTE can help collate the resources that future generations will need to manage this change. #Donate to the ECT so we can preserve LTEs http://bit.ly/ECTDonate #ClimateChange #Charity 🌏
If you missed our June #newsletter, you can read it here: tinyurl.com/ECTJune26 Find out about the news from the Migneint Bog #LTE in Wales, details about the #RLASSymposium, new papers, & news from our networks. 🌏
About 2 wks ago ECT trustee Dave Stone visited the N. Irish #LTE Hillsborough as part of a @jncc.bsky.social trip. This gave him & his colleagues a chance to discuss the potential of the plots to illuminate the slurry’s effects on the soil biota. http://bit.ly/HillsboroughNI 🌏
We have awarded a maintenance grant to Andy Hector at @ox.ac.uk & Kadmiel Maseyk at @openuniversity.bsky.social towards equipment replacement & maintenance costs at the RainDrop #LTE. The award is also supported by the @rambleworldwide.bsky.social. bit.ly/RainDropECT 🌏
A new paper from the BIFoR-FACE #LTE at @unibirmingham.bsky.social shows that elevated CO2 increases the biomass & changes the morphology of the fine roots of trees. This implies that forests adapt to the increased CO2 & remain a carbon sink. Read the paper: tinyurl.com/2sj8ccea 🌏🍁
Our two-monthly #newsletter is for anyone who likes to hear about new publications, events & updates from the #ecological #LongTermExperiments #LTEs in our network & from our partners. Subscribe now: bit.ly/ECTNews 🌏
We have a new podcast interview out! We interviewed @peatymike.bsky.social from the @liverpooluni.bsky.social about the Migneint Bog #LTE in #Wales. Here Mike explains how he used the ECT small grant & about the impact of this #LTE on the water quality at Snowdonia. tinyurl.com/477ym98e 🌏
There are 3 ways we have impact. Our impact lies in placing scientific #evidence from #LongTermExperiments #LTEs at the heart of #policymaking which brings economical and societal benefits to scientists, land-owners, stakeholders & the public. More: bit.ly/ECTImpact 🌏
