Today's iceberg report shows there are ~686 icebergs in the waters around Newfoundland and Labrador. #nlwx The most icebergs counted in any degree square is 33.

Yellow Level Extreme Cold Warnings are in effect for tomorrow night into Wednesday morning for wind chills of -30ºC to -50ºC. #nlwx The coldest reading will be found in northern and western Labrador!
In short-range weather forecasts, I strongly dislike using terms like could and should instead of will. However, with a low passing tonight and Saturday, parts of the Avalon could see some snow in that time frame... or virtually none. I put more weight into the RDPS in this time frame. #nlwx
RADAR UPDATE | 5:44 AM (JAN 28, 2026) Radar imagery shows we are still dealing with areas of light snow in the east and west. There is also snow between these areas (and north) that the radars cannot see. Areas of blowing and drifting snow are also occurring. #nlwx

Radar continues to indicate a fair bit of light snow action on and near the Avalon this morning. This likely extends farther west than shown, but the snow is expected below the radar beam, so it's not being picked up. #nlwx DEC 23, 2025

Right now, the Metro area / Avalon / Burin will see winds in that same time frame, gusting to at least 100 km/h, with the chance of gusts exceeding 120 km/h, depending on how quickly an area of high winds develops. #nlwx (2/2)

The snowfall forecast from this afternoon into early Tuesday morning suggests the highest amounts will be from the Avalon North and Bonavista Peninsula (10 to 20 cm) back toward the Connaigre Peninsula. #nlwx
Tomorrow afternoon and night will be quite windy across much of the Island as an area of low pressure strengthens east of the Island. Gusts to 120 km/h (hurricane-force) are not out of the realm of possibility. #nlwx

Quick low tracks in late tonight with snow for the middle third of the Island into midday Sunday. Starts as rain east, ending as wet snow. Temps marginal, so mainly grassy accums, but slick spots possible around Gander/Bay d’Espoir Sun AM. Snow 2–5 AM, ends 11–2. Not major. #nlwx

The tide level at Port aux Basques this morning is currently being measured at 2.329m. The highest astronomical tide level is 2.1m There are likely areas of the southwest coast seeing minor to moderate flooding. Levels peak with the high tide (between now and 9 AM) and then should recede. #nlwx
