So I've played about two hours of Beast of Reincarnation and I don't think there's an original thought in the entire thing?! On paper it's very much for me but I'm just.......bored?
Had a hankering. Plugged in the old console. Popped in the disc. Everything works. Fancy that? Anyway I maintain this game is great. It still looks incredible. Lightning is badass. And it’s the best battle music of the series. (Let’s forget the story is nonsense though eh?)
Catching up on the FF14 Fan Fest keynote. I’m always astounded at the art design and production value in 14. Evercold is no exception. Love that it’s going for a more traditional fantasy setting this time. And a FF7 Raid?! Yes please. I really need to get back into this.
Been meaning to play Chrono Cross for years and now finished it. Brilliant battle system and some clever ideas, but it all feels too complex for the PS1. Too many companions. Nonsense story. Not a patch on Chrono Trigger 🙃
That said, I think this style of cinematic action game is inherently flawed with pacing and difficulty spikes ruining momentum. I had the same thing with Uncharted. Just as horror games need tension, action needs smooth pacing. Small frustrations sometimes ruin the Bond fantasy.
007 completed! It’s sexy and thrilling and an authentic Bond experience. Its individual parts (stealth, shooting, driving) aren’t always top tier but in this package it all feels like a playable film in the best way.
Happy London Pride! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ Thanks for having me @playstation.com! #ad #invite
Started Bond last night and loving it so far. It’s flashy and sexy and the training montage is incredible and it’s so youthful and cool. But mainly, where the hell can I buy this jacket please?
Sad to say I’m not enjoying Mina the Hollower as much as I’d hoped or others have. The thing with Souls games is they’re tough but fair with precise controls. But combine that trickiness with old school controls and sensibilities…it’s just a recipe in frustration for me.
(Why yes I have just played and enjoyed the Starfox demo. And yes I will get Ocarina regardless despite myself)
The original is perfect and already available on Switch. Don’t give us remakes. Give us something new and not this unnecessarily hyper realistic UE5 stuff. Sigh.
I’m off on holiday today and then travelling for work next week so Mina the Hollower has come at exactly the right time. One of those “this was absolutely made for me” games. Can’t wait to get stuck in.
I’m not really a car or racing gay - my usual rule is if I have to brake I’m not interested - but apparently sexy cars in Japan with hyper pop is enough to have me hooked. Absolutely loving Forza!
And the Saros platinum! Expansion over Returnal brings approachability and lack of balance. But nobody does shooting like Housemarque. Brilliant stuff.
I think Saros also adds depth to the already incredible combat. It just feels so good to shoot stuff in the middle of a firework display. And when the narrative kicks in, it does eventually hit. It’s just more of a slow burn. I loved it.
And that’s credits on Saros. I do think Returnal was a tighter experience with its narrative and gameplay intrinsically linked, and its explorable biomes with hidden depth. But Saros has outstanding visual design: grand, elegant and alien.
Anyway I had a good time with Mixtape. It’s the best music video video game since Sayonara Wild Hearts. And the music is great, obvs.
Here it’s the ennui and euphoria of youth. It’s skateboarding through suburbia to rock and shoegaze. It’s music giving the warm haze of nostalgia, and dreamlike cinematography framing your greatest hits. It’s also cheesey, cliche, melodramatic, too hipster for its own good, and a little forced.
There’s a line in Mixtape about getting “the panic” in silence, the need for music to provide soundtrack. It struck a chord. Like playing music when going to the shops and pretending you’re in a music video. How music makes the mundane cinematic.
Yeah Saros is already incredible after just a couple of hours. I can’t get over the intricate visuals and details, and it feels so smooth to play. Also huge thanks to actual @rahulkohli13.bsky.social for popping by my Twitch stream?!! 🤯 Sorry I thought you were a troll 🙈
That’s a wrap on Pragmata. Just a brilliant, unique action game. Like Capcom decided to try and one up Platinum. Best game so far this year. Yes, better than Requiem. (Still hate the training missions though)
I didn’t think Pragmata would be for me but after just over an hour it very much is. Desperate to keep playing. And Diana isn’t as annoying as I feared!
Just in time for Saros, and after 90 odd hours, I finally have the platinum in Returnal. I had appalling luck trying to get all the cyphers. But still, what a game.
Obvs had to continue and finish the trilogy. ME3 has its cool moments but definitely the weakest and showing its age with both combat and straining to round off the story. Wish it wasn’t so buggy too. But a fun nostalgia trip for sure, even forcing myself to be renegade.
I have finally finished this! Some of the plant stuff is a bit repetitive, if therapeutic, but there are so many cute details - as this thread shows. Very happy with the end result! Hyyyaaaaaa!!
Been reading the Expanse books which put me in a Mass Effect mood so about time I finally played 2 in the Legendary Edition. It’s showing its age these days but still looks and plays great as a nostalgia trip. And I finally have the platinum.
