On the flight out there were strawberry laces tucked in with the life jackets, so you had a snack whilst waiting for rescue.

Under them a screen of black tree boughs partially hides a horizon made up of the lights of Port Ellen's harbour and a flat reflective sea. Below them in the bottom of the picture the very top of a dry stone wall runs from left to right. In the right hand third of a frame a granite stone built house has a shaded window that reflects light, and a roof and chimney that seems black against the silver-grey broken sky.

On the right hand third of the picture metal stairs cross over each other, its structure is referenced in the crossing metal struts and beams of the high warehouse roof. Light shines in from three windows in the high gable wall, and from a set of sliding doors at the far end of the building On a platform which rests on the red wall four huge copper stills are placed. Each still has a kind of port hole which is opened. The colours of the still vary from yellow-gold on the left to a deeper brown copper of the others. We can see that the stills have small lozenge shaped windows that run up the columns away from their bulb like base, and can also see on the farther three stills that this column bends over at the tip like a kind of huge musical instrument.

I've just had such a wonderful weekend on Islay, on a Stag Weekend, which I was very nervous about as s'times being sequestered with the friends of friends can be a challenge. So interesting to spend time with folk who work / live in different worlds, and Islay is such a beautiful place.

In Manchester this morning and as usual I’m struck how much more buzzing, vibrant, optimistic it seems than cities over the Pennines. The lack of Mayoral powers and infrastructure investment in West Yorkshire are brought into sharp relief, in contrast.
