I abhor The Observer's censorship and agree with many points made by Julie. British Feminists need to waken up and support both the Julies and Suzanne on these issues and while they're at it - be honest about oppression of women regardless of offence perceived by some of the vocal minority groups in England.
Why do men who choose to have their sexual organs removed command more attention than the girls in Britain and in the rest of the world who forcibly have their clitoris and labia mutilated ?
As another working class feminist who has worked with survivors of rape and abuse for over 25 years I am tired of having to respect a variety of religions and cultures (some more misogynistic than others) which threaten the gains we have made and hamper us from achieving true equality and freedom from violence and oppression for women.
I have always been willing to share bathroom and changing facilities with trans-gendered women who have gone through the emotionally and medically traumatic transition of having their male organs removed. I fully support their rights in law not to be discriminated against and to be in female hospital wards, prisons, changing rooms as the case may be. However we are now being told that men can call themselves a trans-woman while CHOOSING not to part with their male genitals and that they should be regarded as women in law and by society as a human right. Sorry but "No" if you willingly choose to keep your male genitalia -"The Gent's is next door"
and if that makes me a "Transphobe" then you can add it to my CV under "Islamaphobe" because I do not believe the Burka is "liberating" or even acceptable in a modern secular society. See less

A little birdie told me, and the little birdie is an old bailey judge, That big jim o callaghan enacted the powers of the terrorism act and without consulatation with the minister of defence and called for the use of the army. None of the farmers behaved nor reacted in a way that warented the introduction of the terrorism act and now all protesters who were harmed during the attacks are fully entitled to sue the state for injury and loss. This little birdie says that the media is trying to use the word blockade as it would give reasonable cause for the reaction but when did a blockade occur that didnt involve a foreign nation. No wonder Mr Martin looked worried rather that pleased when the protests finished. All injured parties it seems can now sue the state.

We’ve spent the last 48 hours coordinating the logistics and prep work necessary to get our soup run stationed at the GPO. When we got to the top of O’Connell Street, the Guards wouldn’t allow us to go through, but after much persuasion, they escorted us with a patrol car up to the GPO. Given the current situation, we truly appreciate them assisting us despite having their hands full.
We arrived and were surprised that the queue was not as large as expected. When we got there, a lot of people thought that we wouldn’t be able to get through. Soon the word got out and the queue became much longer.
Everything went well; we had a lot of food and donations. A huge shout out to little Amelia who came to our office and donated €50 from her birthday money as well as her Easter eggs—such kindness and beauty in such a young child. A credit to her mammy and daddy.
Tonight took a deeply upsetting turn. As we were finishing our service, we were approached by a group of five or six individuals carrying Irish flags. They began shouting xenophobic rhetoric, telling us this country is "only for the Irish," that we don't belong here, and that we should "go home."
In a beautiful show of solidarity, those around the GPO immediately spoke up, asserting that we are Irish. However, the situation turned hostile. Our Chairperson and founder was targeted with verbal abuse and told to "go back where she came from"—despite being from Coolock. It was clear that because she wears a hijab, her identity as an Irish woman was being questioned.

n 11 years of service, we have never experienced such verbal abuse. It was difficult to maintain the peace, but the homeless community—truly amazing people—stepped up to protect us. We are grateful that the situation eventually de-escalated and the Gardaí arrived to disperse the group.
Providing 300 meals to those in need only to be met with hate is sickening. But let it be known: we remain undeterred. We are united, and we will always be there for the less fortunate, regardless of their background. In Ireland, you don’t need an ID to receive a warm meal from a soup run.

Donegal United in Dáil Éireann on Donegal–Dublin PSO: Minister Commits to “Do My Level Best” to Resolve Midday Flight CrisisA united Donegal delegation gathered in Dáil Éireann today to press the urgent case for the restoration of reliable, same-day and midday medical access on the Donegal–Dublin PSO route, and the aircraft to be housed overnight at Donegal Airport.
Our TDs and Senator stood with us, reflecting the strength of feeling across the county and the shared determination to protect this lifeline for patients, families, and communities.
Following direct engagement with the Donegal delegation, Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien acknowledged the depth of anger and frustration in Donegal and accepted the seriousness of the current situation.
The Minister stated plainly: “I’m not happy we are in this position… I will do my level best.”The Minister confirmed that active engagement is underway to resolve the matter, including talks “at the highest level” between the Department and the airline.
He advised that this is not a cost issue, but one of identifying the correct mechanism within existing legal constraints. The Minister indicated that the airline is engaging with him and his officials, and that he is seeking advice and assessing the latest position from the airline as part of ongoing discussions.
While the Minister was clear that he could not provide a final resolution today, “I don’t have a solution for you today” he also gave a personal commitment: “I want to get this resolved and will do my level best to resolve it… I am personally working on it.”
He further committed to keeping direct contact through Donegal’s TDs as the process advances.

Importantly, the Minister also acknowledged that there are very serious learnings emerging from this process, including how PSO tenders are framed, a recognition that the current crisis cannot be allowed to repeat itself in any future contract.
Today’s meeting in Dáil Éireann did not deliver the immediate certainty Donegal needs, but it did confirm that this issue is being treated with urgency at the highest levels, and that Donegal’s message was heard clearly, this route must function as a dependable medical lifeline, not a gamble.
We leave Dublin with renewed determination, and with the courage that comes from unity, Donegal stood together today, patients, families, and public representatives, and we will keep standing together until same-day medical access is guaranteed in practice, not just in principle.

Donegal Airport requested a delay so it could conclude legal advice on the issue on the grounds that the proposed contract introduces unprecedented changes in the material terms of the PSO.
Local officials claim the Department of Transport refused to discuss a new contract for months.
Despite several attempts to get answers during the bidding process, the Department reportedly told them they couldn't talk until the final deal was signed.
Officials say the Department has known since October 2025 that the new proposal included major changes to the current contract. These specific changes include:
The aircraft was no longer going to overnight in Donegal Airport, which was the case for the preceding 21 years and which gave a confidence to time-critical users of the certainty of departure on the morning flight.
The midday flights would no longer be provided, replaced instead by a 6 30am flight arriving from Dublin and an 8 30pm flight leaving Donegal.
