We thought our world would flare. Not burn. But water isn't often where we need it. We dreamed of flight/plucked fragile wings from flying things. We punctured space and left Trash. From outside earth is too bright to look at. that why we burned it? There's nothing more flammable than human ambition. We torched little kids like they were sparklers. If we knew would we be anything but damp? Sprinkle us over the burning.

Friend or foe

Some kind of plant with a thistle-like head except not surrounded by spiky thorny kind of points uh like a villain-era cape, all of it still green. Everyone but me probably knows what this is. But it’s pretty cool, plant. 12/10.

Ordinary people spend 3 years of their lives just blinking but there was no point in that for Phyllis so she saw everything.
Flickers of deceit, the tiny tells of worst selves exposed daily in thousands of unblinking nanoseconds. She was like a psychological x-ray at the office, so uncomfortable they asked her to work from home. Then she was fired. There wasn't much to pack up from her desk.
She dumped it all in the trash just past the revolving door.

Splashed with grime and the spattered courage of the voiceless and limbless. They don't know I hear them even after they die. The calls of their last days and hours reverberate endlessly through the buildings and trees, carried on the wings of any buzzing thing that survives the heat. I am sometimes beak and sometimes claw, sometimes two legs like the fallen. I am meant only to record what I see here in the tones of bitter neutrality but of course at times I help. The wretchedness gets the better of me and what bones I have left swell with a pity so monstrous I become almost like them. I rip my clothes to make bandages and when that runs out I tear my skin in strips to tie their wounds. It takes so long to grow back, sometimes even the gap years aren't enough and I return to the next scene oozing pus and plasma.
