Really enjoyed HBO's "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" last night. This is (muddy) street-level Westeros, rather than the game of thrones, but stakes are just as high for participants. Filming, effects & performances are all excellent, with bawdy comedy, gritty combat & a truly huge prosthetic penis.

#Thread I cannot recommend a better book on D-Day than Peter Caddick-Adams' Sand and Steel. It covers the build-up to the invasion, German preparations -precisely what lay in wait for the Allies & the battles on & around the beaches. It does Operations Overlord and Neptune full justice.

I've just finished Riley Black's The Last Days of the Dinosaurs, which I found fascinating and highly enjoyable. So much so that When The Earth Was Green is on my wishlist to be obtained the next time I get paid.

Liverpool Libraries owns a copy of the first edition of Birds of America, which is on display in a glass case in the city's Central Library with its pages turned weekly.

The whole concept reminds me of the world of Sam Slade, Robo-Hunter (I'm sure someone is already developing AI-controlled e-cigars, etc.). When the AIs have taken all of our jobs, some of us can make a living by hunting them down........

I had a copy of this as a teenager, which I lost. I was megachuffed to find it had been republished. A superb book, it still holds up over 40 years after its first publication.

Picked up a copy of The Zoologist's Guide to the Galaxy by @arikkershenbaum.bsky.social ‬and I am really enjoying it. His speculations are carefully based on thorough science, showing how animal traits & behaviours arise through natural selection, which would also dictate evolution on other planets.

Saw 28 Years Later today. Superb film. Scary, tense and quite moving in parts, with some flashes of coal black comedy. The cast are uniformly excellent, especially Alfie Williams. My only qualm, as someone who grew up there: the film's geography of NE England is quite literally all over the place😉
