L: Dill anyone? Poppies sure look good with Dill. They are both squatters bc this is the garlic bed (to be harvested in about 3 weeks). R: The Linden tree is in bloom, the bees are many. The Russet apples are beginning to grow their girth. Last year’s drought halted their growth, this year 🙏🏻
I’m a bit late reading this book, but I do recommend every Canadian reads it!
And the manually operated locks on the Rideau canal system between Ottawa and Kingston. These are close to Kingston
Because the world is gloomy, I’m sending you pictures of the historic Great Lakes passenger ship the Keewatin, now (not quite) restored and moored permanently on the Kingston (ON) waterfront.
In other news: the NGC kept me engaged the whole day. Didn’t make it to the SC.
I’m getting older and it’s weird but true: my yearning to travel is diminishing. I’m so glad I spent 2+ decades working my ass off in my garden, which I continue to passionately enjoy. The more local I become, the bigger the joy will be.
Ja, dit is een goede dag om hier naar te luisteren. Ben de dag begonnen met een wad-wandeling. Waarvan akte
Early evening in the garden A bald eagle just flew over #Blessed
I remember that well. I have a picture of that bladeless donut Yes it was the wrong place to start. The powers-that-be were overambitious. There’s access to a power line there so they naively thought they could just feed the grid. I think about it often. Bc this is the view from my house (now)
Every morning, I sit here with a cuppa and look out over my garden for about 15 minutes - at least. No phone, no radio. I suppose I should add a stick :)
Listening to the swifts chattering and racing high above. They are nesting in my new box too Good night
This view is never ever boring nor will it ever be #home
Here is the reverend Dietrich Bonhoeffer, hanged by the Nazis, in his own words, especially for Representative Brandon Gill. Someone please forward it to him
One of our local coffeeshops (and my fav) is called “charts”. All its walls are decorated with maps. A new map was added this week - the geologic map of the British Isles and Ireland. How awesome is that. Now - would anyone other than a local geo (we have quite a few) understand this map?
These - under the eave and on top of a nesting box - have flown. There were 3. I found one dead, the other two were harassing the parents for a few days. Chickadees are nesting inside the box; chicks haven’t flown yet :)
The Amazon River near Manaus (Brazil) at the confluence of the Rio Negro (clear water, hence 'negro') and the Rio Amazonia (sediment-laden water). Not reat pictures (by me, from the ferry), but this phenomenon exists for many kilometers before the two properly mix.
Definitely in my garden, condo-style: the chickadees are IN the box. Three Robin babies. I found one dead the morning after they flew, the other two were pestering the parents
this was the view from our house in 2002. The Dominion Atlantic Railway, which ran from Windsor (NS) to Yarmouth (NS) had been privatized. Both infrastructure and the right to run trains on it were sold to an American business man from Virginia.
Herinneringen blijven
I wouldn't put a picture (by me) like this up if not inspired by @betheena.bsky.social and by @elizemanis.bsky.social Happened to come across it today as I was looking for something else. I'll stop now.
I thought this was a picture that @betheena.bsky.social would have liked to post. This morning at Tangled Garden in Grand Pre, Nova Scotia - picture by me
Here is my cousin among the towering evergreens of Haida Gwaii on the Tlell trail.
