Sounds like gender dysphoria to me, but none of these boys were ever diagnosed with the condition (half of them still got top surgery)

Excerpt from a medical study:

All of the patients indicated that they wanted surgery and the parents were supportive. Both patients and parents, however, were aware of the difficulty in obtaining authorization and payment for the surgery by their respective insurance companies. For several families who did not have the means to pay for the operation, this added an additional stressor and some conflict between the patient and parents.

The patients developed a number of strategies to hide their breasts. The most common included wearing several shirts, one or more of which were tighter and/or made of spandex. One patient wrapped his chest in layers of plastic wrap and duct tape. When he left the duct tape on for several days, he removed a layer of skin along with the tape. This same patient noted that he wants to "cut his breasts off." Many of the patients suffered back problems from constantly walking with their shoulders slumped and arms crossed over their chest to hide their breast development. A number of the patients attempted to lose weight, including one who indicated that he "starved himself." Patients also engaged in vigorous exercise programs and were disappointed when neither weight loss nor exercise led to a reduction in breast size.

In the authors' opinion, psychological management as sole treatment is inadequate, as no amount of counseling will fix the anatomic issue and therapy would need to be life-long. Further, allowing these patients to persist with the psychological burden of depression and anxiety (along with the attendant risk of suicide and other self-harming behaviors) would be out of line with the best interests of the patient. Whereas the standard approach in plastic surgery is to verify that patients are psychologically "cleared" before operation, this is not an appropriate approach when the patient demonstrates an adjustment disorder in response to a clear anatomic stressor. I get that their dataset is very incomplete, but it’s really telling to me that, out of the 144 vacancies that were created by people moving into the Central, they could only find 34 households that occupied the vacated units. I think you can’t just write that off as “it’s probably an undercount”

One thing that stands out to me about this story and others like it is that no one will give a quote saying “we do not promote settlements in occupied territories, which violate international law”
