Today Ross Douthat platforms a powerful German man on a quest to "maximize" humans. And doesn't see, or doesn't ask about, the obvious precedent. We've seen this film. It doesn't end well. #historysky #skystorians
Big announcement about the "civil discourse" program here at #UNC - corrected for accuracy. #academicsky #academia
Interesting, Claude! OTOH, a team in Berlin also built a place to kill my grandmother. #TrustTheProcess #TechInnovation #AIpocalypse

Interested in how an influential amicus curiae brief comes together? Joining me in this webinar are Rachel Grossman and John Nakahata from the firm that represented me & Larry Oda, whose personal story of birthright citizenship the brief narrates. apiavote.org/birthright-w... #lawsky #academicsky

Enjoyable to watch? Absolutely! Courageous? For sure! Unprecedented? Hardly! The stuff of "awe?" Depends on your perspective. Awe was what I felt watching this as a kid. What I felt this time was "nostalgia," or maybe "deja vu."
My university is too scared of its shadow to publicize the impact of my amicus brief in the birthright citizenship case, so I am grateful to my former dean Gene Nichol for this shout-out. #lawsky #academicsky www.newsobserver.com/opinion/arti...
This administration's stupidity is unbounded. We circled the moon in 1968, seven months *before* landing on it.
Like most everyone else, I see the government losing in today's #birthright #citizenship case. And it's braggy to note this, but this is such a rare thing that I'm going to do it anyway: My amicus curiae brief got *two* call-outs in the courtroom this morning. Kind of a dream come true.
I can say only that the right place for this obscenity of a planning session was a space called the Indian Treaty Room. #skystorians
The history of Japanese American incarceration is not a morality play about bad men thwarting good ones. It is a story of ordinary officials—some better, some worse—operating within institutions that rewarded racism, fear, ambition, and deference to military authority.

I'm thrilled this morning to see my amicus curiae brief about birthright citizenship as one of just 2 (out of 43 filed!) singled out by @stevevladeck.bsky.social in his newsletter "One First." The brief is here: tinyurl.com/3hy76638 Please help spread the word! #lawsky
Yesterday I filed an #AmicusCuriae brief at #SCOTUS in the birthright citizenship case. It presents stories of 3 families of Japanese ancestry--w/o legal allegiance to the USA--to show citizenship derives from birth on US soil, not parental loyalties. #lawsky #skystorians tinyurl.com/3hy76638

It's International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Of all the photos from this era I've seen - and I've seen a lot - this one is the most arresting. March 1944, deportation of the Jews of Ioannina, Greece. A young woman sees a loved one taken away. #Holocaust #skystorians
