Then on Tuesday, July 21st, the Tree and Open Space and Waterfront Commissions will be meeting for their second joint Public Information Session as we look to make some important infrastructure improvements to Perrotti Park.

Broadway, at 6 p.m. and all are welcome to attend!

Diverting your food waste to compost pickup makes your trash less stinky and reduces the trash you’re sending to landfill by a LOT - usually about 30%. In RI, we have 1 landfill and it’s filling fast, so any reduction helps. Plus this in turn reduces carbon emissions, which is better for all.

We had a great time at the 70th Newport St Patrick’s Day Parade and it was an absolutely gorgeous day. Let’s remember while we celebrate that all liberation is connected and the Irish story is all about liberation. Free Palestine. No war with Iran.

I didn't read this agenda beforehand thoroughly and therefore I don't have a link to my previous posts about it, but this is a screenshot from the item that describes the background. BACKGROUND AND FINDINGS:

On February 11, 2026, the City Council voted not to approve the previously submitted General Obligation bond funding request for the Primary Clarifier Rehabilitation Project. The Primary Clarifiers are critical infrastructure components at the Water Pollution Control Facility and are essential to maintaining RIDEM and EPA permit compliance and protecting public health. The estimated total project cost is approximately $25 million.

North and South Easton Ponds are important parts of the public water supply infrastructure serving Aquidneck Island. These two impoundments provide approximately 17% of the storage capacity available to Newport Water. The impoundments are formed by earthen embankment dams with associated concrete spillways. Today, this infrastructure is at risk of damage from either inland or coastal flooding events.
The City of Newport Department of Utilities is currently undertaking a program to improve the resilience of this infrastructure to flooding. As part of that project, public access improvements are being considered in this project area.
During this meeting, people can learn more about the resilience improvements being proposed for the dam infrastructure as well as provide initial input into the public access improvements that will be considered.

We DID leave the house on foot yesterday and that was delightful.

Emily flopped on her back in a giant snow bank, arms out. Only her huge black coat, hood and snow boots are visible - no facial features detected.

This part really fucking got me. Reka is a Hungarian immigrant who escaped Nazi Germany. She speaks about her experience of the US taking her in but demanding gratitude and zero criticism, no matter what. This is what we do to immigrants today, still.

Excerpt from Kate Quinn’s The Briar Club that reads:

Even women of relative privilege are not immune from controlling husbands and doctors who tend to their husband, not to them. If you think this doesn’t happen now, you’re delusional. But it was worse and it could be again.

Excerpt from Kate Quinn’s The Briar Club where one character is talking to another about getting fitted for a diaphragm without her husband knowing:
“Mrs. Sutherland gave a quick shake of her head. "Any doctor might tell my husband. I know I sound silly and paranoid, but it happened to me before-I asked my doctor for something to help me sleep, and he was ringing my husband almost before I was out of the office. Barrett was so angry with me for not asking his permission first..."

It’s pretty but … yeah we’re going nowhere

Emily’s street, unplowed, with drifts almost up to the first floor windows, blocking her front stoop and door. There is probably a foot and a half of snow in various drifts covering the street and sides, down to the intersection with the next street. It’s very white and dramatic against the blue sky.
