ALL of this is maddening, but carbon capture especially is a sad joke: "a few years work in one of the fifty states in one of the 200 countries on earth has done more than the thing that the fossil fuel industry has based its whole climate rationale on." billmckibben.substack.com/p/youre-payi...
Fixed it for you. “There’s a lot of enthusiasm for the deal, in part because people believe that there is enthusiasm...So many people need this to go well.” An economy rooted in nothing but wish-casting. www.nytimes.com/2026/05/29/b...
Sometimes, it's the exact same fight. Sabey is one of the big data center companies in WA. They're also leasing to.....
Exceedingly delicious. Nearly half fresh-ground einkorn (gives it the nice yellow), starter instead of commercial yeast, didn't bother with the egg wash...the reviews are in, and it's absolutely a keeper. One friend suggested it was our omen for the Super Bowl.
@valeriecosta.bsky.social was "doing crimes". @mayorofseattle.bsky.social is somehow engaged in "insurrection". The women of Seattle do get Elon's goat, don't they? I feel a little left out. Will keep working on it. (Screenshot from @theburnerseattle.bsky.social, h/t @evansutton.bsky.social)
Whose black tipped tail is this? This gorgeous little creature came right up to the back of my skis when I was out xc skiing today, very curious, then skittered away before I could get a good picture. Methow Valley, for reference—and I’ve never seen one before.
Wow. Cynthia Green, 8-decade resident of Seattle. “In her, we saw the sort of person we need more of, someone with the bravery to risk failure and move with love and justice…’realism’ is the language of people who have grown comfortable with inequity.” Cannot keep up with her great lines here!
“When national governments turn cruel, cities still have power.” Young Somali-American student who fought for free transit for students several years ago, now finishing her PhD.
Sooo ready to vote cure for days if need be. But I don’t think it’s gonna be needed. Really really really looking forward to Mayor Katie.
Good people, don't outsource anything you're not willing to lose....
Got to admit it's getting better, a little better all the time... We've got work to do, but the wind is at our backs!
Gonna sleep like a baby tonight…. The country and the world are in dire shape, but in NYC, Seattle, Boston, and who knows where else, the good people of our cities are doing the right thing. #Katie!
Goddamn I hate SeaFair. Chose the wrong time of day to take a walk, and now my ears hurt and my poor pup is panting and drooling with fear. Trying to help her, but I don't know how well earplugs work in canine ears...
Almost 20 years ago, Gus Speth came up with the eminently quotable: "All we have to do to leave a ruined world to our children is just keep doing what we're doing today." He's still at it, here with thoughts on a climate-capable democracy: salazarcenter.colostate.edu/climate-capa...
Umm: “One has to construct a fake reality, mentally destroy evidence and keep attacking the reality-based part of the mind that sees the fakery.”
How have I not read The Psychological Roots of the Climate Crisis till now? Published in 2021. I think the “with no inner conflict” here is so telling; it’s why Trump’s AI action plan yesterday called for deleting all references to climate change. They can’t bear even to hear/acknowledge it.
On Capitol Hill. Sure would be nice if we lived in a world where people took the many & dominant pro-social aspects of their religions to heart. "The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God."
Several of my neighbors wanted @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social signs; for these guys on my corner, I wondered where to put it, since one side is densely planted with flowers…and settled on around the corner, next to the street sign. I guess they thought it wasn’t prominent enough, so they did this!
“Looking out all all of you, I know we can win this. There are not a couple hundred people somewhere else in the city now, excited about supporting Bruce Harrell.” @wilsonkatieb.bsky.social YCSTA!
Great crowd at the rally for @wilsonkatieb.bsky.social! First speaker says “I certainly didn’t think my first endorsement would be for a white lady…but representation isn’t just about race…I am endorsing Katie because we need more movement people in government. This is OUR city”
This one does the occasional bunny murder, but she's CRAZY about humans.
