Welp, when you’re right, you’re right. The Maine Monitor has an archive of all his comments on Reddit, and 37 of them mention Collins. 36 of them are wholly negative, and even the one you’re referring to is, after the first part, negative as well. But none of that matters. You were right.
Look, I ended up opposed to him and saying good riddance now, but I always got the impression the “veteran oyster farmer” schtick was an ID play for the rubes and what drew me to him was a lot less that than all of this.
All I’ll say is that it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Platner is at once a rapist, an asshole, unfit for office, & also genuinely believes the things he said that made me support him at first. DSCC is salivating at the idea of Senator Jared Golden, and whoever that’s for it ain’t me.

Think it’s probably worth taking these two @theophite.bsky.social posts together and thinking about the implication. We’re not actually helpless. We can, in fact, play for keeps. There’s nothing preventing us from doing what they do to the least powerful to the most powerful instead.
Not picking on OP here but there’s an inherent contradiction between these tweets. Town and city governments at this point are basically only capable of 1) funding police and fire and 2) gutting everything else because all the state and federal funding has dried up. 1/2

Think it’s more this from Aaron Sorkin from The American President. They do not want Collins and they do not want Mills, and they’ll vote for anything else else on offer, even though it’s worse than Collins or Mills.
No one in this discussion (which is absent of genuine conservatives) is ever saying “everything is perfect, everyone has everything they need, including all the food they could want.” But starvation in the U.S. has been eradicated. Keagan is not going to refuse a meal if he’s starving.
Yeah, so this is kind of my point. People in the south and Appalachia in the 60s were *starving to death*. They had scurvy and wasting syndromes. The concept of “food insecurity” didn’t even exist then, because “hunger” and “starvation” were real features of American life in a way they aren’t now.
And this kind of failure to index can end up odd places, like saying boating is a necessity, and that taxes on boat sales are an intolerable violation. I’m sure for the very rich that IS their biggest problem. I’m sure they ARE genuinely very angry about it! But I don’t have to take it seriously.
