With a current heat index of 110°F in Miami, the Norway v. England match has tied Ireland v. Mexico in Orlando on June 24, 1994 for the hottest match in World Cup history.
Very intense earthquakes have just struck northern Venezuela, especially the cities of Puerto Cabello and San Felipe. Early automated estimates are more than 10,000 people may have died with damages of 2-20% of GDP This is likely a humanitarian catastrophe needing an international response.
Welp, we're on our way to Super El Niño. h/t @drkimwood.bsky.social for the chart
it's the year 2026, we've passed 1.5°C of global warming, we're fighting an unpopular war for oil, natural disaster frequency and severity is skyrocketing ...and a leading Democratic politician and POTUS/VP hopeful is unabashedly pro fossil fuels. what an abject failure of climate politics.
I had four free hours in NYC so of course I went to Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Highly recommend
Turns out, we *really* needed that last decade of lost climate action that Trump has wasted. www.theguardian.com/environment/...
An extreme wind warning now in effect for Saipan — this is the highest-end wind alert the National Weather Service can send, basically like a stationary tornado. Very dire situation right now in Saipan as Super Typhoon Sinlaku continues to make slow landfall.
Right now there's nothing on the front page of CNN, The Guardian, or the Washington Post about today's landfall of Super Typhoon Sinlaku in a US territory. The NY Times only has this short blurb after scrolling all the way to the very bottom of the page.
Category 4 Super Typhoon Sinlaku is making landfall now over Saipan in the US territory of the Northern Mariana Islands. Sustained winds of 150mph and 50ft waves. Folks in Saipan are US citizens and they need our help.
Super Typhoon Sinlaku is now less than 24 hours from landfall in Saipan — a US territory and home of more than 40,000 US citizens. Our brothers and sisters in Saipan deserve support just like any other Americans. When Donald Trump's FEMA ignores this Category 5 landfall, there needs to be outrage.
Super Typhoon Sinlaku is now peaking at Category 5 strength and is likely to make landfall on Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands in about 36 hours. The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands is a US territory. They're going to need all the help they can get after this storm.
This is the most breathtaking image I've seen yet from the Artemis II crew: Earth as a tiny, fragile sliver.
gonna have to add a new color beyond brown because spring (defined as emergence of tree leaves) is coming more than a month early this year for a huge section of the American West
Imminent dam failure on the North Shore of Oahu after more than 24 inches of rain from two Kona Low weather systems over the past 10 days. This particular dam was built by Dole more than 100 years ago and since abandoned, putting thousands of people at risk: www.civilbeat.org/2026/03/were...
The US is the reason this crisis exists, not just because of our reckless military, but also because our role in growing fossil fuel dependency. In 2024 we consumed the most oil in one year of any country in history - roughly equal to the amount that passes through the Strait of Hormuz each day.
FUCK ICE chant just broke out during the moment of silence at the start of the Loons game
Mass unrest in Puerto Vallarta this morning after the MX government raided a cartel. Numerous fires, smoke blanketing the city. People are sheltering in place. The airport is closed. Flights bound for Puerto Vallarta are returning to their city of origin or being diverted to Guadalajara.
There were more than 200 neighbors holding candles out on our street corner tonight - The same corner where twice yesterday vehicles attempted to hit protestors. They don't get to take our safety and our community away from us.
I'm gonna go stand outside for awhile and cry and sing with my neighbors 💔
Today is the first general strike in Minneapolis in almost 100 years. What if the work we're doing today — the work of showing the world another way is possible — was *real* work all along? By my friend, Cinnamon Janzer: cinnamonjanzer.substack.com/p/occupy-min...
There's now video of this incident. Apparently the ICE agent was just walking around spraying several people point-blank with pepper spray — depraved behavior.
