Politics and public transit in the PNW. Now in Oly, earlier in Bend & Tacoma. Standard disclaimers apply.
It would be one thing of this were just the Times, TV news, and chamber types, but we’ve got a ton of older Dems not just echoing the pile on but eagerly leading it. WTF is Reuven Carlyle doing here? He could just shut the fuck up. That is an option!
I’ve been tempted to do coin/stamp nerd threads for the World Cup like yours but have resisted so far. Here’s a stamp for this one though:
One of my favorite examples to mock in this vein is (outgoing) Deschutes County Commissioner Tony Debone. Tech guy from Michigan, worked in Seattle area before settling in Hawaii -- and then finally found himself in wild, wild La Pine, Oregon. Pics are when he was first elected versus now.
Supposedly there are major changes coming to the transit system in less than two weeks but there’s still no detailed information available to the public about the actual changes. Instead we get advertising about Papa Muphy’s?! Why is a tax funded agency begging for a share of pizza sales??
That used to be the policy at CET but appears to no longer be the case. We stopped doing full body wraps not just because rider inconvenience but also the paltry revenue just wasn’t worth it once you factor in operational logistics and frequent damage on removal. Maybe Knute is overpaying though…
Ah, that’s what I was wondering when you said you knew Fred. Fun guy! This is me with him and the CP1 crew for V-E Day 2002 in Menton. I’m the young one and was CP1 webmaster at the time 🤣
Iran made postage stamps out of that one. This is who we picked a fight with.
Iran remembers. They made postage stamps! The stamp reads: "Failure of US military aggression against Iran, Tabas 1980" That was one of Delta Force's very first missions. Americans died not at enemy hands, but in a clusterfuck. The Ayatollah said it was stopped by an act of God.
A good jumping off point could be explaining why Dukakis in a tank was career ending cringe while the right demands pictures like this from candidates as though they were a hazing initiation. Pictured: wannabe Oregon governor Christine Drazan.
Funny you mention that because Facebook is inserting AI “reels” of aircraft carriers being destroyed into people’s feeds. Great that I still have to use that social media platform for government work…
Figured I would keep a browser window open with the score and it looks like AI has leaked the game final score already. Place your bets! (this is a real screenshot I took around 4pm on the west coast)
I’ve actually got some money from the 1848 revolutionary governments in the area! “Moneta Patriottica”!
It seems they use 2 euro cent coins to make the German version of elongated pennies now but it was 5 pfennig coins when I was a kid there. Anyway, even boring cities like Dusseldorf have TV towers on the skyline! Functional and a minor tourist attraction in one.
I have to use Facebook for work and the Reels section at the top of the feed keeps pushing AI videos of ICE being arrested. Or in this case “FICE” While we hear pleas to turn down the temperature, Mark Zuckerberg is over here handing out matches.
Nor asking for… Knopp is very much not repentant, nor anti Trump. He is a true believer extremist despite wearing a suit. For a look at his family values, his wife (who he hired as a legislative aide) celebrated SCOTUS overturning Roe by saying it was a good day to fill up her liberal tears cup.
Sidetrack seeing the Clackamas GOP mentioned: Do you know anything about the oddball Chuck Norris billboards that for long time appeared next to Republican candidate signs on the road out there? Always was a head scratcher that I never had the time to figure out
One of the main goals from Republicans failed 2017 “repeal and replace” effort has been achieved. For all the talk from Dem leaders about a focus on healthcare, did you even know that happened? Greg Walden was one of the plan’s key authors in the House. Listen:
Arby’s used to have a 5 for $5 beef and cheddar combo and now just one beef and cheddar alone costs $9.
I’d love to run a Fight Club type op where instead of replacing airplane safety cards we just insert Trump’s real, uncut words in places that his supporters would have to confront. Chamber luncheon brochure on every table? Open it up and you see parts of that rant.
Reddit is full of evidence of this, but I just stumbled on this perfect specimen on r/QualityTacticalGear right now. You can probably smell this picture.
No amendment needed! This was the top priority outlined in CET's TMP. Also named in Bend's TSP! Targeted to roll out in near term with existing funding while Rt8, etc were mid-long term goals to come with expansion funds. I know Bend grows fast, but all of this was envisioned in the plan.
I asked and she still has the printed copy! Adjust how much broth you serve up for more or less soupiness, but this is really good without modification.
Walmart is the most used bus stop in Bend, Oregon. It beats the next runner up by a whopping 60% more boardings. This stop is away from the store, on the main drag, in a small island in a gas station lot, surrounded by busy driveways on each side. You have to walk in traffic either direction.
I hear you, but head over to Flaming Geyser State Park near Black Diamond outside Seattle for underwhelming. I has use my own lighter to reignite it. There’s a flame down in that hole, I swear!
“…and a lack of viable public transport…” Notice that word: viable. This is an advocacy project in England, but the sentiment is common. Just having a line on a map doesn’t mean the service actually works for people.
A day trip toward the coast has lots of options too. From Portland, I'd recommend a stop in Astoria with scenic hikes around Cape Disappointment. See Deadmans Cove, a WWII fort, and the area where Lewis and Clark saw the Pacific. Ecola State Park and Cannon Beach are another good option.
Enjoyed presenting on how to craft public transit programs to access the outdoors at this year's Oregon Outdoor Recreation Summit!
