I’m very excited to be attending San Diego Comicon this coming weekend! Here’s my convention schedule.
ASSORTED CRISIS EVENTS #6 has a YOUNGBLOOD variant!! We solve a mystery that fandom never knew was a mystery in the first place! Who was Youngblood facing off against in the most iconic comic cover of the 90’s?
Just finished this Storm vs Sentinel illustration as a follow up piece to the Jean Grey one I did last year. Who should I do next?
ASSORTED CRISIS EVENTS #3 is out next week! @denizcamp.bsky.social @imagecomics.com @hellomuller.bsky.social
Just got my comps for ASSORTED CRISIS EVENTS #2. This issue is so bloody that it’s visible from the edges of the comic. 🩸🩸🩸 In stores next week! From the sick minds of @denizcamp.bsky.social, myself, Hass, Jordie and @hellomuller.bsky.social !!
I feel like I'm working with the best of the best in this industry, with @denizcamp.bsky.social, Jordie & Hass. If you've missed out on issue 1, there's a second print on the way! It comes out a week before issue 2. Issue 2 is bonkers by the way. I don't think there's any other comic like it.
I've been living with this comic every day of my life for over a year and a half, so it warms my heart to see that it's found an audience. The reaction to it has far surpassed my expectations.
Deniz's scripts are so fun and creative. I love the layering of information in this page. And it serves as a prime example of what we want to with this series.
Thanks, everyone, for all the love for issue 1 of ASSORTED CRISIS EVENTS! Here's a peek at one of my favourite pages and my obsessive storytelling. Despite putting several hours of work into the layout of this page, I decided to throw it out because I knew there was a better way
And Deniz could tell how much I loved the cover, so much so that he got the original art and gifted it to me! This is one of my most prized possessions.
I’m in awe of this @ghwalta.bsky.social cover! And I’m such a huge Gabriel Walta fan that it was a dream come to true to get a variant cover from him!
If I gave you the first 5 issues and told you that there was a different writer for each one, it would be pretty believable. However, there’s one common element: humanism. These stories are diverse, emotional studies on what it feels like to live in this modern world.
For anyone who thinks they’ve found some thematic throughlines in Deniz Camp’s overall work, you’re probably going to have to rethink that after reading the first several issues of ASSORTED CRISIS EVENTS. @denizcamp.bsky.social is reinventing himself with every issue.
So excited to launch this comic! I think it’s the best thing any of us on the team has ever done. Every issue is different, every issue is a new experiment.
Some recent art I’ve done in between issues of my upcoming (unannounced) creator owned project.
Here was a challenge I gave myself when it came to controling the pace of the reading experience. Speed-up, climax and then slow-mo. All in one page.
I’m working on a short story with @zacthompson.bsky.social and he made reference to this Tarkovsky gem in the script, so it’s inspired a re-watch.
The complete HEART ATTACK tpb is out today! I worked on most of this series in 2019, but just last year got to put the finishing touches on it. You can see my development as an artist improve and change over the course of these 12 chapters. Overall I’m pretty proud of it. youtu.be/ArJVY3jk3_c?...
HEART ATTACK is a story about two characters with different goals and interests slowly falling in love. So I often tried to keep them separated by panel borders while they were trying to get to know each other. But I allowed them to share panels after a connection had been made.
He also threw out this version because the foreground element wrecked the balance of the composition.
Katsuhiro Otomo was such a perfectionist that he would throw out stunning, completed pages like the following. He redid this page because it was at the end of the story and he thought that the destruction felt too optimistic.
And here are the lettered pages, by the legendary Pat Brosseau. And of course script by Shawn Kittelsen and colours by Mike Spicer.
More than any other project I've worked on, I had to put my all into the ACTING in HEART ATTACK. I really enjoyed the challenge of figuring it all out. Trying to make the drama work without falling into melodrama.
The news is out! HEART ATTACK is going to be made into a TV show in Japan! deadline.com/2023/09/walk... I should mention that the complete HEART ATTACK collection from @skybound.bsky.social will be out October 4th.
