hi I make neat things occasionally! industrial designer (freelance) | "dfma-witch" | artist sometimes | meows at engineering problems she/it
I recieved a parcel from a friend with an incredibly important object inside* - my collection of strange nuts grows larger!! :3 *also PCB’s for a project we’ve been working on for ~2 years I guess
10 months of (sporadic) work turning into an ugly minimum viable prototype that performs better than I could have hoped - such a good feeling :3 #WitchStaff
Weights for Witch Staff machined and bead blasted in my bedroom :3 I’ve been dreaming about manufacturing capability like this forever,,
this is what happens when you let mechanical engineers near ECAD software..
it’s going to be quite a pretty device I think (amusing myself with renders while I’m prepping the silicone mold for the wand head..)
procrastinating building the device by spending half an hour fixing the off-center engraving on the e-stop button? possibly..
am I procrastinating molding the silicone magic wand head by over-engineering the test rig control box? ..maybe, but the aesthetic vibes are very important I feel
an engineer friend of mine who designs press-molds for recycled plastic convinced me to visit their workshop yesterday :3 I got to knead the plastic like dough to make the patterns! so much fun 🧡
I feel like it’s judging me for harvesting components I forgot to add to the lcsc order a few weeks back..
same :3 ..so I gave in and am building a silly little long range 18650 explorer that I've been designing
it’s finally warm weather workshop outfit time again! ..I probably won’t keep the “tail”, I need it for an actual project
I gave in to an urge to make a vacuum fixture plate and spent ~16 hours machining this on my comically ill-suited plastic framed cnc - it works really well! if only for my health (remembering to eat mid project), I really need a better cnc machine..
I love modifying second hand fabric tool rolls for my own purposes - quite often only a stitch unpicker is required! here’s version 2 of my portable soldering kit
alligator forceps + an elastic band is the most useful electronics / soldering tool in existence..
successfully smuggled the M64 nut that a cute person gifted me at #39c3 through UK border control :3
emergency battery holder! (1 minute of pcb machining, 4 minutes of fiber lasering the steel)
being able to laser cut steel on my desk is so useful.. initial tests tomorrow, if I can figure out the simpleFOC devboard I got :3
I finally got a production Tangara! …couldn’t resist swapping in the aluminium back from my prototype unit, but it still feels special I love working on open source hardware with my friends 🧡
Originally intended for this weight adjustment mechanism to be solely for testing, but honestly it might be a pretty neat feature on the final device?
the best thing I ever did for my seasonal depression was mounting a 75W office building LED light bar to a frame on my desk.. (at eye-level so there's no bright spot that triggers my migraines)
did u know it’s silly mechanism day? you’re meant to design a silly mechanism today, I did!
