A bit of family history from my mother’s files. My father used this passport to get to Sweden and eventually the US. The stamps inside record his passage through occupied Europe (using the fiction that he was a Soviet citizen) and through Spain and Portugal as a Latvian.
This Friday we held a referee training workshop in Bloomington. Here you see all the graduates of our 4 hour session, along with three editors (including me). This was the first time we did one at a university instead of at a science meeting. The next will be in Baltimore, or nearby, in the Spring

It would help this discussion to look at recent publication trends. This is from ADS, total publications in all the AAS journals + MNRAS + A&A +JCAP. This year’s total is extrapolated from the first quarter. The feeling that things have changed suddenly is not an illusion.
