32% of people name mass migration vs 29% for political extremism - which is equal by MoE! People with concerns about extremism heavily skew left, thus concern is largely about rise of the far right/anti-immigration. Reporting, nor gov policy, certainly doesn't reflect these equal levels of concern!

Stop the War Coalition accuses Starmer of exaggerating threat from Russia
This is what the Stop the War Coalition has said about the Dip. It is a statement from Chris Nineham, the coalition’s vice-chair.

In a telling and desperate bid to leave ‘a legacy’, Keir Starmer has insisted on announcing the defence investment plan before leaving office and before the Nato summit. Never mind the cost-of-living crisis or the collapsing services he leaves behind, Starmer wants to be remembered as the man who ramped up spending on weapons to record levels.

He claims he doesn’t want war, but that the best way to avoid it is to be prepared for it. This is a transparent lie. His government has done little more than enable the US and Israel’s illegal wars and has enthusiastically backed the war in Ukraine, doing everything possible to prolong the carnage in the effort to, as he put it today, “turn the screws” on the Russian economy.

It is clear that security, defence and the fantasy and implausible threat from Russia, which is constantly talked up by ministers, generals and arms companies, are now the main ways that the ruling classes are justifying attacks on social programmes, on welfare and working-class living standards in general in favour of still more missiles.

Burnham explains how 'Makerfield test' will ensure places like his constituency don't get treated as 'afterthought'
In his speech Burnham set out his view again of how he would apply what he calls “the Makerfield test”. He said:

We will take the energy of this campaign and we will bring it forward into changing British politics for the better, and to make this part of the world – if you like Makerfield test – at the heart of British politics.

When policies come forward, if they don’t work for people here, for the places of this constituency, if they don’t lift people up, then they shouldn’t happen at all.

We’ve not had a country run on that basis before. Places like this have often been an afterthought. Westminster has looked past the communities of this constituency.

Well no more. That changes today.

This, the morning after a race riot was incited by the leadership of two major political parties is pathetic. Vapid, directionless responses to basic ideas on racism. No ability to push back on substance only on technicality. Asleep at the wheel in the fight against fascism.

In an interview on Sky News, Sarah Jones was asked if she agreed with Farage that white people were not treated fairly by the police. She replied:

I don’t think the evidence at the moment would suggest that, if you look at the facts and figures about policing.

I will always listen to the police in terms of what they’re saying and the home secretary said yesterday [that] we need to talk to the police. We need to talk to the Sikh community. We need to talk to knife crime campaigners. We need to understand what it is we need to do differently and better and we will do that.

Jones says language in police anti-racism commitment 'wrong', and giving 'wrong impression'
In her interview on the Today programme, Sarah Jones, the policing minister, said the “police anti-racism commitment” was being reviewed (see 8.19am) because the language in it was “wrong”.

She said:

Everyone should be treated equally under the law and I think it’s right that they are reviewing this document and looking at the language.

This particular document is a values document, it’s quite a short document and I don’t think it forms the basis of any training or any police activity.

We think the language is wrong, it gives the wrong impression. But I don’t think it affects how our training is done.
