Played a game of Imperial Elegy yesterday. Didn't take pics so I'm posting images from VUCA's site. It's a fun game portraying Victorian and Edwardian era Geopolitics. The cards are well thought out, and combat goes from swingy to lethal with the advent of machine guns and modern artillery.
Time for more Pro-Canada posting! This is the Red Ensign, the flag Canada fought under during WW2. While I personally quite like it, I appreciate the logic behind adopting the Maple Leaf, and think that's also an excellent flag.
Finished an excellent book this past week, Antonia Senior's Stalin's Apostles. It's an exhaustive look at the Cambridge Five -- what they did, what drove them, and perhaps most interestingly to me, what the consequences of their actions were. Strong recommend.
Since @krasnoviancommando.bsky.social got me thinking about the Spanish Civil War again, I'm gonna try to encourage my partner and a friend to play Land and Freedom this weekend. It's a fun semi co-op Spanish Civil War boardgame, quite approachable.
Edward Teller is one of America's great heroes because he was clear-sighted about the Soviet threat from the get go and developed ways to deal with them that wouldn't involve re-fighting World War II. In this house, he's a sweaty, Hungarian-American hero.

Thinking of Konstantin Rokossovsky this week. He was one of the USSR's most accomplished generals in World War II. The NKVD captured him in the late 1930s. He was released in 1940 to assist with modernization. Our Rokossovsky might be named Donahue or Slife. Hope we didn't purge too much talent!
I'd be remiss as a Mexican Revolution Enthusiast and emphatic Pancho Villa partisan if I didn't tell Bsky.app that today is the anniversary of the Battle of Zacatecas, Villa's finest victory, which was over Huerta's federal forces.
