Large-scale efficacy trials of lenacapavir—which Brazil, Argentina, Peru, and Mexico participated in—have shown one dose of the drug, given as two shots under the skin, offers nearly 100% protection against infection for 6 months. This is a potential game changer in HIV control, scientists say. The drug costs $14,000 per dose in the United States, but Gilead is offering lenacapavir for an HIV-prevention strategy known as pre-exposure prophylaxis (LEN PrEP) at no profit to 120 low- and middle-income countries. (It has not revealed the exact price, but reportedly charges $60 per dose.) But Gilead says Latin American countries can pay more than that and has been negotiating with governments in the region.

Viewpoint. Science does not exist in a vacuum, but interfaces with the broader world in ways that are not always overt but are becoming increasingly complex. This includes new transformative technologies, digital disruption, and emerging/growing global issues that require integration of diverse perspectives (e.g. social, environmental, economic). Options for how we communicate, discuss and debate topics relevant to the broader scientific community and other stakeholders (e.g. government, industry, the public) have diversified in recent years and will continue to do so. More traditional approaches focused on publishing peer–reviewed papers in professional journals are largely unidirectional and somewhat static – i.e. passive rather than actively promoting useful discussion and debate beyond the specifics of the science, and in fact generally don’t actively seek to engage across domain boundaries. Viewpoint articles are topical editorials linked to an online curated platform to enable scientists and others to engage transparently in dialogue around issues raised in the editorials.

This resolution is worded only one time about minors in the introduction. The word minors needs to be inserted ANYWHERE the resolution mentions Gender Affirming care. Paragraphs 7,8,9,10

Otherwise it implies all gender affirming treatment in my opinion???

While compelled segregation is generally impermissible, failing to maintain sex-separated athletic competitions and intimate spaces can also violate federal law. Federally funded institutions that allow males, including those self-identifying as "women," to access single-sex spaces designed for females-such as bathrooms, showers, locker rooms, or dormitories-undermine the privacy, safety, and equal opportunity of women and girls. Likewise, permitting males to compete in women's athletic events almost invariably denies women equal opportunity by eroding competitive fairness. These policies risk creating a hostile environment under Title VII, particularly where they compromise women's privacy safety, or professional standing, and can violate Title IX by denying women access to the full scope of sex-based protections in education. To ensure compliance with federal law and to safeguard the rights of women and girls, organizations should affirm sex-based boundaries rooted in biological differences.

Researchers whose findings have cast doubt on a competitive advantage for transgender women athletes appear to have been excluded from an International Olympic Committee working group tasked with creating a new policy on female participation.

That includes the authors of a 2024 study funded by the IOC that found transgender athletes might actually be at a competitive disadvantage, and urged caution in imposing participation bans.

“I was not included. I’ll let you extrapolate as to why,” one of the researchers told USA TODAY Sports in an email confirming they were not part of the IOC’s Protection of the Female Category Working Group and had not been asked to participate.

The more than 7,300-word proposal outlines a three-year agreement that calls on UCLA to:

Make five years of payments — $200,000 annually — and set up a $172,000 fund for people with claims of civil rights violations.
Ensure foreign students who are “anti-Western” will not be admitted.
Pay for all costs of the settlement, including the fee for an outside monitor.
Annually release demographic data for hires as well as students who have applied or have been admitted, broken down by “race, color, grade point average, and performance on standardized tests.”
Make a public statement declaring that transgender people’s identities are no longer recognized.
End gender-affirming care for minors at medical facilities.
Give the government access to “all UCLA staff, employees, facilities, documents, and data related to the agreement” not protected by attorney-client privilege.

The document shows signs of being hastily put together. Nouns and verbs occasionally do not match in tense. There are references to the “president” of UCLA, but the top campus administrator, Julio Frenk, is a “chancellor.” A sentence about medical facilities references the “Feinberg School of Medicine,” which is at Northwestern University.
