Translation, books, NordicNoir, Norway, Iceland, Scandinavia, cats, moose 🫎, food, nature, lighthouses & offshore wind are my things. Oh, and I’m #PetronaAward judge
Happy #Caturday & Happy Publication Day to Erlendur Arason, the #Icelandic author who has just appeared on the #NordicNoir scene thanks to the efforts of the translator extraordinaire @graskeggur.bsky.social. Zelda approves that no cats have been hurt in making of The Hotel Manager’s Guide to Murder
This seagull toddler got caught in a mouse trap. Its wing was probably damaged but was not broken. I let it into the tall grass and I hope this noisy little bird has survived. Parents and the rest of the screeching family followed.
Have you heard of the Icelandic crime fiction writer Erlendur Arason? Yes? No? His book The Hotel Manager’s Guide to Murder will be available later this week, in excellent English translation by @graskeggur.bsky.social 🇮🇸, famous for his own writing & @corylusbooks.bsky.social’ literary adventures.
We went to the beach, climbed down and then up some rocks, saw long cargo boat and loads of ducks, ate wild strawberries, sat in the water and got shaken by massive waves 🌊 It was lovely 😻 #NorwegianWeatherReport 🇳🇴
Some people follow the football news, some people read books. And others do both. #PetronaAward team follows #Scandinavian crime fiction goals 📚 @ravencrime.bsky.social @eurocrime.bsky.social @westwords.bsky.social
It would be an exaggeration to say that Zelda 🐈 treats her / our home as a hotel. In the heat of the summer she uses it as a roadside café: she brings me local gossip, I give her food.
So that’s what I did with some great people last Saturday, before #Norway 🇳🇴 - #Brazil 🇧🇷 match. Now it seems everyone is ready to watch Norway 🇳🇴 - #England 🏴 match. I know nothing else about #football ⚽️ 😉 #HeiaNorge
My Welsh friend Siân came for a visit and she’s staying for several days at a wonderful villa by the fjord. Tonight we had simple dinner outside and she said that the sound of waves is like a massage for the soul 🌊
As far as I’m aware that’s the current situation after the agreement has been reached🦟 🪰
Super busy week. Followed by very relaxing weekend in #Åmotsdal, #Flatdal & #Notodden 🌲🏔️🌳 #Telemark with my mum and good friends 😊 #NorwegianWeatherReport 🇳🇴
Gratulerer med dagen #Norge 🎉 17. mai #syttendemai #NationalDay #ConstitutionDay in #Norway 🇳🇴 is about celebrating democracy and freedom which should never be taken for granted. It’s about friendship, kids, families. With ice cream, cake & hot dogs. Photos from 2023 & 2025 with my Norwegian family ❤️
Stairway to heaven, sort of, especially if you like rain, fog, sea, boats, noisy seagulls, quiet ducks, and a promise of sunshine 😊
Yesterday #Oslo had black clouds, rain, strong wind, blue sky, sunshine and white clouds. April, isn’t it? 😉 #Oslove #NorwegianWeatherReport 🇳🇴
#WorldBookDay today 📚 and a memory from 2016 when I was celebrating William Shakespeare’s birthday with my mum in Stratford-upon-Avon
Dr Jarosław Giza, Assistant Professor at University of Applied Sciences in Nowy Sącz, Poland, has published the first study of the global bestselling Harry Hole novels. It’s titled The Traces of Gothic Fiction in Scandinavian Crime Fiction: A Study of Jo Nesbø’s Oslo Trilogy
#FirstCoffeeOfTheDay ☕️ with the original and intriguing One True Word by Snæbjörn Arngrímsson, translated from #Icelandic 🇮🇸 by Larissa Kyzer @pushkinpress.com
Reblogged: Jo Nesbø’s Gothic Oslo Trilogy. As millions of people around the world (last number 6,9m) watch #HarryHole on Netflix and social media are awash with stories, photographs, interviews & opinions, I read a great review by Jakob Stougaard-Nielsen of a new academic book on #JoNesbø’s writing.
I asked 🐈 Zelda 🐈 if she knew it’s her 3rd birthday 😻 today. She just said she’s too busy patrolling the garden, supervising seagulls and inspecting the neighbourhood but she will some tuna for dinner when she’s done for the day 😹
